turned off Sense UI, got a faster eris

Oh, man, that was scary. Turned Sense off for a minute, and felt like I was in a scene from Flatliners or something

What exactly is different about SenseUI? I mean I see that the bottom bar is now gone, but do you still get the 7 home screens? What are the other differences? thanks

Ok Sense UI is only 1.00mb in size considering everything else running thats barely a drop in the bucket if your phone is Laggy and not running right might want to switch it out. Have you got or did a update on it yet??

End of thread.

Not so fast, my friend.

Did anyone else notice that there were a whole set of different wallpapers when you turned Sense off? When I turn Sense back on, I can't find them anywhere.

To access them: turn off Sense, long-press anywhere on the home screen, select "wallpapers," then select "Wallpaper Gallery Home."

Turning off Sense UI does NOT improve performance. Confirmed via CPU meter apps.

End of thread.

Really get a kick out of how you come up with a one response and proclaim, "End of Thread", as if your comments are the end all to be all !

Are you one of those "Self-proclaimed" moderators or something ?

Hell, you could at least get an avatar, being a moderator and all !

turning off sense ui gives you almost 30MB of memory back at startup. When sense is asleep at startup it does not consume much memory at all. CPU is nothing, sense sleeps most of the time anyway. The default home does not use as many animations and stuff either so it does feel faster as well especially if you use spare parts to speed up the animations from default.

i am pretty sure that the sense ui is what was draining my battery. i turned it off and have noticed an increase in speed and battery performance. might just be me though.

Wow, I'm new to this forum but it sems like alot of you purchased the phone just to criticize it. My eris as been nothing but expected and it's my 2nd of 4 so called smartphones. It was updated within 5 weeks with the idea of getting 2.0 within three months what the hell is wrong.

Can someone please help me out with turn Sense back on? I'm in panic mode.

Nevermind. Downloaded home switcher. good to go. phew

settings/applications/manage apps...

then find HOME and clear defaults and then hit the button, should ask you to choose.

Droid allready does sense UI. Eris is only a nock off of the hero lol, Dont get me wrong good little phone but not in droids league sorry.

Normally I don't feed trolls, but no one would argue that the Eris is more powerful or more capable than the Droid. It simply isn't true, the Droid is a beast and has tons of power. However, I, along with many others, bought the Eris for a few reasons.

1) True Sense UI supported by HTC and upkept by all updates.
2) cheaper price
3) form factor, nice and small, feels good in the hands
4) NOT the ugliest phone ever made. Seriously, the droid is the product of a 15 year old who was told "design a manly phone, don't worry if it's ugly, it just has to be manly".
5) no physical keyboard, they're a waste of space and add unneeded bulk to the phone.
6) trackball, it's great for games and using the phone one-handed in the car and serves as a cool silent notification.

I knew the Droid was much more powerful and yet I never even considered buying one. And yes, I had more than enough money to buy one. If the Nexus One would have been available, I would have bought that. It also has some of the same advantages as the Eris, specifically numbers 3, 4, 5, and 6.

That is just too funny, mostly because it's true. With the Moto there is no reason to carry another weapon.

I would just like to take this opportunity and point out that this thread was started on 12-11-2009 12:26 AM. That is all.....carry on.

To each his/her own. I haven't run SenseUI since the second week I've had my phone. I prefer it not using it. Sense lags me out and slows me down. I prefer Open Home, dxTop, and Panda Home. (before it force closed ever 5 minutes).

One benefit I can see of running home rather than Sense is that the phone button is gone off the main screen. I can't tell you how many times I have accidently dialed someone (I assume) from hitting this button inadvertently. It was such an issue for me, in fact, that I've downloaded Super Dial (which is only about 50% functional) and Not Call Log so that the Eris goes back to the main home screen when a call ends so you don't accidently redial anyone.

The amount of memory an application takes up or the size of the executable itself has nothing to do with the amount of resources an application hogs while it is running. I can write a tiny little app that continually runs an extremely complex mathematic calculation that will rail your processor to 100% and not let you do anything else on your phone, while consuming no RAM.

Caddy, you still running dxTop on 2.1? Just curious if the changes they made kept you from using a home replacement.

i have dxtop installed yes, and i used it for a few hours, i like sense better though...the new widgets and what not are top notch and i like the leap feature of for no other reason then the wow factor.

I think I would cry at this point if I had to give up the clock/weather widget. I don't care what taking it off does for my phone. I love that little animated thing.

OTD have you tried Beautiful Widgets? They have a Widget that is almost identical to the stock one. They also have a smaller one which only takes up 1 row but still has the cool weather animation.

I downloaded Home Switcher and I'm going to set it up to my liking and then see which I like better. I'm really kinda digging the fact that the phone button isn't ever-present.
