Root [Tutorial] How to root the ZTE Warp Sequent. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK

if the zte tool actually worked right it should unroot it, did you try using it with cwm installed? because you cant get into the mode needed to do the update tool with cwm on the phone you have to switch back to stock recovery. also i never could understand the reason for unrooting, if you dont want root permissions just go into the superuser app and choose always deny instead of ask, and then itll do the same thing unrooting would, keep you from doing anything that requires root permission

Last time I tried to update with the update tool, it says I have latest software and won't let me download also. Even with a bo7 ROM. Idk what's up

Hi just wanted to see if this is still the current method to ROOT the sequent or is there an updated method in use now not discussed in this thread?

Warning It's your phone if you break it blame yourself. I can't help you if this script bricks your phone. I have used and it worked great.
After a successful root it is recommended to Flash a Recovery and make a nandroid backup. BE CAREFUL. REALLY.

You will need the proper adb drivers for this to work .

Thanks to the Guys helping develop for the Warp Sequent

peasarecool found this method so many thanks and DoomLord is just awesome. I have used his work before thanks.

Confirmed , this method works for Boost Mobile ZTE Warp Sequent N861.

Followed directions with 100% success! I would like to add that if your using windows xp you shouldn't have to manually install adb drivers. I simply attached my phone usb cable and hooked it up to my pc and it recognized my device although I didn't have usb 2.0 as my computer is an older machine.

I then installed cmw via terminal emulator, my next step is to find a completed rom that will work with the B09 update. Any suggestions?

Guys, total noob here, will this allow me to use straight talk? I have a N861B01, I'm not sure if this phone can be rooted/unlocked. My wife bought it thinking we had Boost Mobile in the area but no signal. It's brand new and I'd like to use it on ST network.

Help please :D

no, the only way to switch from the sprint network to straight talk is changing the serial number and doing all kinds of hacking to the phone, which is not only complicated, but technically illegal even if you own both the phone you are using and the phone you are cloning. its hard to believe you live somewhere you cant get sprint service though

i tried it once but nothing happened after 40 minutes. i've tried it a second and third time, but it is saying waiting for device. it's on debugging mode, and connected. is it finished?

won't work. says waiting for device. i've tried all the usb settings. it's in debugging mode. everything turned on. just won't work. anyone have any ideas

are you using the drivers from the zte site? and did you check your device manager to see if its listed under android at the top?

1st time rooting, 1st time successful because you guys wrote it out flawlessly, thanks for the help to all who put time into this.
And if it doesn't work for you people, you need to read carefully the instructions, if it doesn't work, then you didn't read it.

Excellent rooting guide!

For those of you that can't figure this out, go get an iPhone. You obviously aren't reading the instructions correctly.

Drivers are on the ZTE website. Go get them installed. Make sure you have the SDK bundle, and that you open the SDK manager WHILE your phone is hooked up in Debug mode to get the correct ADB drivers. (They're different than the drivers on the ZTE website!) Make sure your phone is setup the way the tutorial suggests.

Everything worked flawlessly. Many thanks, OP!

actually im not sure if the sdk thing is necessary, i never had a problem with using just the adb drivers that come with the zte package, but if you have issues with that its worth a shot

I did have issues with the ZTE drivers. I couldn't make it work without using the SDK USB driver as well.

Just a suggestion, for those of you having the "Waiting for Device" error. :)

different people on different computers will get different results, depending on what they have previously installed in what order, their hardware configurations, and os version. one size doesnt necessarily fit all
