Tv Screen off

I wish this phone had the tv screen off effect like the nexus s and my 4g with cyanogen mod. Anyone else feel the same?

Tried it. Didnt work for me, dont know why.

Did you go into Screen Off and Lock settings and select delay device locking? When that is checked you can select the effect you want, such as Old Style TV or TV Static among others. Then you can long press the static search button (the magnifying glass next to the back button on the bottom of your phone) and set the default to screen off and lock so when you long press that button it will activate the animation and turn the screen off.

thats exactly what I did. None of the screen effects worked. The sound effects worked when I lock or unlock the phone but thats it. Also noticed non of the sound effects are the sound of a old tv, so I guess that effect wouldn't be exactly what I want anyways.

Since you're so sold on your IP4 maybe you can get that to work?

I dloaded and installed this and it worked flawlessly.

Screen Off and Lock, free in the Market?

Good stuff guys! I'm reminded of this thread from the Evo 4G forum from a little bit back. There was never a solution posted to it. Can someone check out that thread and ensure that it is a similar animation style?

This might be a good resolution/workaround. If so, we can post an update to that thread and give it a solution.

Just an observation, nothing more. Treven posted that I believe because Outkast recommended someone get the Iphone in another thread.

"Screen off and lock" app works perfectly for me fwiw

it's not designed to do it when you hit the power button, you have to put a shortcut on your homescreen and hit that shortcut and then it turns your screen off using the animation

if you hit the power button it turns off normally

EDIT: but without the AMOLED screen the nexus s has, it doesn't look anywhere near as good. qhd requires backlighting even for black colors, whereas AMOLED just turns off those pixels. so on qhd you see the screen turn black during the animation, then the backlight turns off, on nexus S you just see the animation and when the animation is over the screen is off

just a heads up for anyone interested

Yes, obviously it is different hardware and different technology so it is going to differ. However, my question remains un-answered. Is it the same style animation? Do they look the same/similar except for the obvious difference in technologies? Is 'Screen Off and Lock' trying to recreate that same exact video effect? (see the other thread and the video linked in it for a comparison)

I'm not sure if they're identical but it's similar enough that even though I own both phones I don't notice a difference

It's free in the market, anyone can download it and try it themselves if they're that curious ...

By the way, thanks to persistence, previous generation TV phosphors did glow a while after the TV was off.

So - if the effect is the shrinking to a light spot at center of screen (as cathode scanning stopped) - then if the 3vo is glowing a bit afterwards, take comfort that that's more accurate.

:D

Finally a straight answer, I thank you for that and politely tip my cap in your direction. That is confirmation enough for me to go out on a limb and update that old thread.

I knew someone eventually was going to give me that smart-alec answer of "why don't you just install it yourself". However, I make it my personal mission to not install superfluous applications to my handset so as to keep the cleanest bill of phone health.

Thats classic EarlyMon, classic :D

I loved how TVs used to glow even hours after they were off. Good times. Reminds me of Poltergeist.

:D "They're here..."
(Someone had to say it)
Good times indeed, nothing quite like that soft familiar warm glow of dissipating light energy
