Root Two Dalvik Caches

I noticed that I also have both these dalvik-cache directories (running CyanogenMod-7.1.0-RC1-IHO-KANG on a Virgin Mobile LG Optimus V).

The one in /cache causes me some issues since that directory seems to be capped at 110 megs, so if dalvik-cache gets too big, I don't have enough space to download apps into /cache/download.

Can someone suggest a way to deal with this? And please correct me if I'm misunderstanding something here. I'm still learning how all this works.

TnIan,

Sorry for the belated reply re. this...

The cache2cache redirect for the Eris is especially useful and folks don't seem to need or mind the reduction in being able download things to /cache/download--which seems to be problematic for you on the Optimus V. I don't know if this is easily removable (or removable at all) for CM7.

The best I can do is direct you to zach.xtr's thread over on XDA re. how this is implemented for HTC Droid Eris:

[SCRIPT][1/22/2011] A Simple Cache2Cache for CM 6.x and 7.x ROMs - xda-developers

There is an entry at the bottom of the above page about how to remove it, but I don't know if that's exactly how its implemented on your phone.

Cheers!

Hi, Scary; thanks for the info. I think I understand the logic of moving dalvik-cache to /cache, and it does sound like a good idea - it just butts up against the limited capacity of my phone.

Mostly, it was driving me nuts because I was getting those "download failed due to insufficient space" and "package file is invalid" errors, and I couldn't figure out why. The latter seems to be caused by not having enough space for the .apk installer to put files in /cache/dalvik-cache, so both problems were just a capacity issue with the cache partition.

For the time being, I'm just being careful about file management, and I'll attempt a more permanent solution when I understand the OS better.
