Two questions about TapFish

I always wondered why my phone says it's memory is full but I have very few apps that aren't big or space wasters.. I wish there was a way to delete those files, tombstones?, without rooting, because I'm afraid to root and don't know how. My phone is being ruled by the TapFish game taking up all its space, where I'll have to start compromising whether or not to keep other apps because of it..

You are where I was, Obee.

What phone do you have?

Rooting isn't hard at all--it's just a matter of downloading files to your computer, then hooking up your phone and adding a few files to it.

It will probably void the warranty on your phone, but if you have an unrelated problem you can restore it to stock.

I do not think you can brick it just from rooting (flashing ROMs is another matter, but you don't have to do that). It just gives you superuser priviledges and lets you use apps that need that permission--like on your computer you would have admin permission and can do what you want.

I have yet to figure out a way to get the game data off the phone itself, and I think I am nearing 60mg with it. I just breed fish and sell them unless I really like the way they look cause I just don't have room for more tanks right now. But it is waaay better than before I rooted, because I have linked almost everything to the sd card and exterminated the pesky tombstones.

Before I was removing apps I really liked and used, just to make room for the game. Now I can have any apps I want, even though the game keeps growing like something out of a horror movie.

Well I blew up my microSD trying to partition it I'm thinking maybe I should have read the fine print and made them both primary. Now my phone nor computer can see my micro SD card. FML on a lighter note my tanks are fixed.

Were you partitioning for Link2sd? Then yeah, both partitions have to be primary. If you are using Windoze, it will tell you that Windoze cannot read two primary partitions, but just go ahead and do it, because your phone is smarter than the Wintendo OS ;).

What did you use to partition?

I have a Motorola Droid, the first one (not X or Eris, etc), on a verizon wireless plan. The phone is almost 2 years old though, so I'm not sure about its warranty. I know I won't be upgrading to a new phone anyone soon, unless this one dies, so I'm okay with taking some risk. I haven't done it yet just because reading all the forums and guides are kind of making me nervous, like if you press one wrong button, your phone will make that "aaeehhhhhhh" sound and never turn on again. Was there a specific guide or apps you used? I don't mean to be annoying, just point me in the right direction and I'll figure out the rest.

I'm not a huge cell phone techie if you couldn't tell already, haha, so I'm sorry if my details sound strange.

Thanks ray (& others)!

Hang on, Obee, and let me get on the laptop. I'll find the threads you need.

Name's Kate (as in"shrew" ;p) btw. :)

Welcome to the forum, aaazian! How long have you been playing and what level are you at?

hi there! been playing tapfish for quite some time but had my phone formatted so i'm back to square one! luckily they refunded my fishbucks into the new game.

by the way, has anyone noticed the blue starfish acting like an algae eater? just realised all my tanks get dirty except for the one with the starfish. not sure if it's the starfish or a bug in the game.

To not stray fro the topic: I am soooo honked. I was doing soemthing else while tending my tanks, and instead of hitting buy on the pygmy angels (or whatever those little butterballs are called) I hit buy on the Lyretail mollies--which are fishbuck fish. Grrrr! Spent every buck I had before the first one hatched and I saw my mistake. And the useless mollies are only worth 180 when they are grown. Here I sit. Broke and growling.

Okay, Obee--get your driver for your computer HERE if you don;t already have it.

(That first one should be all you need.)

Then if I were you, I would stick my sd card into my computer and drag the contents onto the desktop for backup. You are going to format it, anyway.

Now, watch THIS and if that looks like your phone, that seems (to me) to be the simplest and most straightforward way to root it.

If it does and you root, then go to Market and get Titanium Backup and Link2sd.

I'll give you an link to a good tutorial for link2sd if you want.

Yep! That is an algae eater! Much nicer than those ugly fish, too:D

Hey, aaazian, did you hit the menu arrow--->About Tapfish---> Restore Game?

That should have put you back to the last time you opened the game before you formatted. (Won't work if you have played since you reformatted, though.)

Hello Everyone,

I've too have been playing for a while now and today I ran into a little problem that I'm hoping someone can tell me how to fix. About a week ago I went through all my tanks with fish in them and added a huge food cube. I was tired of scanning all the tanks twice a day to feed the fish. A few days after that I did some rearranging and moved a few fish from one tank to another. Well today I decided to look in on my fish and a bunch of them are dead !!! There's a food cube in each of these tanks so I don't understand why my fish died. Does anyone know why this happened? These are all bred fish so I could spend 3 days * X dead fish to get them all back or use fish bucks (not going to happen) but I feel like I got screwed here and I'm wondering if there's a fix for this bug.

Thanks

yay for pretty algae eaters! :D so I take it that the violet starfish does the same too?

yeah I knew about the restore game thing beforehand, thanks! but opted not to - just so I could spend my fishbucks well this time around (like on eagle rays instead of algae eaters!). I do miss my tank of royal grammas though!

Awesome! Thanks Kate!!! I'll give it a go when I get home tonight and see what happens, and I'll let you know. Wish me luck.. Ha.

Oh wait, just noticed watching the first part of the video, my Droid is version 2.2.2 not 2.0.1 - does that matter?

Boxatoys - do you have the newly updated Tapfish? If you do, one of us could revive your fish for free, if you didn't already flush them.. What's your player name? Mine is ObeeWan.

I have my tapfish set to auto update so I assume it's the latest version. I have not flushed my fish yet because I was hoping there was a bug that someone knew about and a fix. If someone else can revive them that would be AWSOME! My daughter will not be happy with me if she finds dead fish. My account name is boxatoys just like on here. The fish are spead out in 11 tanks somewhere in the first 25 tanks. I would greatly appreciate it if you could bring these guys back.

Oh, and another question (Sorry Kate), after I do all of the stuff to root, I'll still be able to get back my account for TapFish right, everything the same, just by pressing the Restore Game after reinstalling it or whatever?

Hmm.. I revived fish in 1 in Bred 2, 2 in Bred 3, 2 in Bred 4, and now it's saying "Revive Potion finished. Please come back in 24 hours to revive your friend's fish."

So you'll have to wait for others to help out or 24 hours and I'll revive some more! Haha. Cool breds, btw. I would probably put the feeding blocks at the bottom, so they sit on the rocks, because where the fish feed from is the bottom left corner of the stack. Seeing that yours are positioned at the way top, the fish probably technically can't reach the feeding point I'm talking about.

This is awsome news! I will leave the others to float around in their tanks. For anyone else who can revive my fish there are:

3 in Bred 4
1 in Bred 5
1 in Bred 8
2 in Bred 10
1 in Bred 11
2 in Bred 16
3 in Bred 17
2 in Bred 18
1 in Bred 20
1 in Bred 22

Thanks again for all your help!

Someone got there before I did, Box, so I started where they left off and got through one fish in tank17 before I ran out of magic potion.

I think one more person could finish the job.

I'll try to find out about the 2.2.2 version--I don't know. I know on my phone the last update was just to remove the hotspot option, so on mine it would, bit I don't know what your phone's update was for. I'll read around and try to find out.

And you won't lose the game just from rooting. All rooting does is put the superuser permission on the phone.

The formating the sd card is for Link2sd. I got a new (read:great big) sd card so that is the one I formatted. But if you move the whole game to the phone (if you had parts of it on the sd now) it wouldn't matter.

But, you should be able to restore the game to the last time you signed on through restore if you ever need to.

(I know it works because I have the iPad version, too. I crashed my iPad--lightning, I think-- and had to reformat it. But they had taken Tapfish off the iTunes market. When they brought it back, I downloaded it and restored perfectly after several months. All fish were ther, not even hungry, and the breeding tanks picked up where they had left off.)

hey guys,

i need to switch my phones, from Ev0-3d to photon. Is there a way to transfer the game?

Thanks.

Hey, Ramsham!

Just install the game on your new phone, then hit the menu arrow at the bottom right-hand side of the scree, then hit "about Tapfish" and the "restor game" is in the middle of the screen.

That should do it.
