Root [TWRP][2.8.7.0][MS345] TWRP for LG Leon MetroPCS

This TWRP works just fine on the T-Mobile H345. Some friends of mine have the TMO versions and I rooted and flashed the MS345 TWRP (latest from this thread) and it works no problem. Successfully backs up and restores, flashes zips etc. Safe for TMO varient
Thanks.i was inquiring about CM12 tho.i had no trouble flashing TWRP.

To anyone working on development for the Metro PCS LG Leon MS345: I have one that's rooted with TWRP and a couple recent Nandroid backups available on a 32gb SD card. Cracked the screen and switching service to a free SG Light tomorrow morning. Phone is as functional as it was before hitting a cement wall at roughly 40mph, just running on WiFi now. Saw some posts looking for crash test dummies and I'm always looking for a way to learn more about roms and all related areas of study so if you have need testing I'd be happy to help as much as I can, keeping in mind that I don't care if this phone ends up completely ruined but would like to get some educational value from it if possible (it was free btw). Not a total noob but definitely noobish with lots of free time, common sense and multiple devices to practice on (LG Volt, SG Victory, SG Tab 4 & LG Leon). No experience with ADB as of yet. Proficient in flashing, recovery, reading and following directions blah blah blah. Just wanted to see if I could help and get a little guidance from anyone willing to answer an occasional pm or two when a question arises that I'm unable to resolve on my own. If not, no worries. The offer is always on the table. Sorry for the short novel here. Just wanted to explain the situation clearly the first time around. Take it easy, y'all ✌
If you ever have any questions, feel free to send me a PM and I will try to get to it when time allows. I was once in your shoes and wanted to learn the technical side of Android. It lies within actually doing it with a lot of trial and error. Took a very long time before someone was willing to even point me in the right direction @PlayfulGod @junkie2100 . I would suggest learning the languages C, C++, and Java. If you want more details, send me a PM so we don't throw this thread off topic :)

Has anyone else been able to restore backups? I made a backup of the stock rom and when I try to restore it I get 'E:extractTarFork() process ended with ERROR=255'. This happens on both compressed & uncompressed backups. I tried the old twrp from twrp.me and the new twrp from the cm12 thread and both give the same result. This is the part of recovery.log where it fails: EDIT: Solved! The problem was I didn't have Kingroot removed all the way. I ran the Kingroot -> SuperSU conversion script, and now all kingroot files are gone, and restoring the new backup works like a charm.

U need to flash twrp IMG with flashify then use twrp manager to reboot to recovery I had no problems sense I done that

nahhh still nothing. i did that but my phone is unable to boot on recovery ,had a problem with recovery before. so any another solution?

  • Power off your device.
  • Wait a few seconds
  • Boot in recovery mode by pressing the Volume Down and Power Button at the same time for 2-3 seconds until the LG logo appears on the screen.
  • Release the buttons and press them again until the Recovery Screen appears

What about LG Leon 3G (H320)? There is any way to install recovery? I tried with TWRP manager, Terminal and Flashify, everything failed, I have a dead android instead recovery mode now...

This recovery or any ROMs related to 4g Leon from Metro or T-Mobile (US variants) will NOT work for any international/3g variant. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

It seems I ****ed up my recovery.
Got a LG Leon LTE (LG-h340n), rooted with KingRoot and deleted KindRoot with SuperSU Me.
Then I wanted to flash TWRP recovery (from the app) and it gave me an error (flash was unsuccessful).
Now everytime I boot into recovery, e.g. to do a hard reset ("factory data reset"), I get an error:
"Secure booting error! Cause: boot certification verify"

Then I am stuck in a bootloop. Pulling the batterie solves the problem and I can boot into android without problems.
Any idea how/if I can fix this? D:

All you have to do is install right recovery... Unless your on the wrong software version.

What software version are you on?of youre on 10D,just enable developer options & tick enable oem unlock.that should resolve your issue.if youre on 10E im afraid you may have to use the KDZ method if you want to fix the filesystem error youre having.

It's Android 5.0.1, Kernel 3.10.49, Build LRX21Y, Version V10c-EUR-XX.
I don't know if this information is useful, since I guess that you are referring to the MetroPCS version by 10D and 10E.
I got a an identical LG-h340n here, where the recovery is intact. Could I somehow copy it over to my device?

Also, I have the option to upgrade to 5.1.1 through the LG OTA update. But two things prevent me from doing so:
1) I don't know if this would fix my problem or conversely will result in an unbootable device.
2) Probably I will loose root and as far as I know it is still a problem to get root in 5.1.1.

I am happy for every hint in the right direction, so thanks already for your help!

H340n who provides this device? The only devices with unlocked/unlockable bootloaders are h345 and ms345 unfortunately other carriers chose to lock their bootloaders. Typically all CDMA and international devices from LG are locked, but a few GSM carriers in US lock their devices as well.

I see. It was bought in germany. So the bootloader is locked, hm. I guess it is not possible to flash the right kdz file then? Actually I was able to get it from the LG servers.
Or should I just try the OTA update, probably loosing root? I don't want to brick it completely.

This recovery is for the LG Leon (MS345). It has been tested and works 100%.

To reboot to recovery, from power off:
Hold power + volume down until you see LG Logo, let go of the buttons and immediately press them again. Select yes to factory reset twice and it will boot you to TWRP

Is there any way to restore or remove custom recovery WITHOUT flashing the whole rom (KDZ) ? thanks

You would need to be rooted.but yes.you just need to replace the custom recoverys partition with a copy of stock recovery.

Do you have to unlock the bootloader to install TWRP on the Leon? Sorry all I'm only familiar with lte2 recovery which is TWRP but Lokified version. For any who may not know Loki basically means my bootloaders locked but TWRP slips one under the rug on of the ol tight locked bootloader, as LG bootloaders are and Viola Custom recovery Loki version. Due to Hroark13 and his genius.

You just need to Root the LG Leon. I used KingRoot method, was quick and easy. Specifically I think its v 4.0.5, search on these forums it says the exact king root version.

After that install Twrp.

Than to access Twrp just hold the Volume down key + power button untill the LG logo shows, than release, than reclick and hold the buttons fast. It will ask you if you want to perform a factory reset. say Yes and Yes. Than the phone will reboot into Twrp.
On rare occasion when accessing Twrp alot, my phone would hang up on the lg logo, instead of going into twrp. Just reboot your phone and try again. its really simple.

Yes I'm used to keypressing and booting into TWRP that way and yes ofcourse you have to be rooted but I would switch to SuosrSU first I seen a way you can do it from a file and terminal but I'm wondering if you could just flash the SU Zip? Hmmmmm you don't have to unlock the bootloader? Just have root to have TWRP? I Thought you're bootloader had to be unlocked unless you had a Loki version like I do on this LG F6.

And I thought it I read it was kingroot 4.0 anyway when I get this phone here in a few more hours I will search for the right Kingroot version Or uses kingroot on an f60 by LG but didn't like kingroot and didn't know at the time that I could switch to SuperSU! Can't wait to hook this phone up soon. Just find it odd that you don't have to unlock a bootloader all sudden these days hmmmmmmm……
