Root [TWRP] Best TWRP, must have

EarlyMon

The PearlyMon
It's simple - get Cap'n Throwback's TWRP from here -

http://themikmik.com/showthread.php?16278-SPRINT-RECOVERY-TWRP-Recovery-(UNOFFICIAL)-v2-7-0-4 (don't let the raw link fool you, it's 2.7.1 at the time of this post)

And don't even think about it - install the theme to /sdcard/TWRP/theme/ui.zip - it's not funny how much better it is.

Notice that the touchscreen debug outputs are gone - and I ought to have taken a shot during use because you can finally see backup progress.

This is a great job by the Cap'n and buds credited at themikmik.com, please save all thanks and likes for him. ;) :)

Oh wow, it's been a while since I was here.

That TWRP has come so far. Supports all the M8 variants, has MTP and UMS modes enabled, and fully functioning charging LED and offmode charging.

@EarlyMon - you'll want to remove the "Sprint" from the thread title as it's no longer relevant ;).

P.S. I also have a MultiROM version!

Is cap'n gunna push out anymore builds since twrp incorporated from his build in their newer versions?

I'm not planning on it, actually. Well, at least I'm not planning on releasing anymore standard TWRP builds.

I will be maintaining the MultiROM TWRP for M8, however, so it's probably a good idea to keep your eyes on that thread anyway. But for your standard TWRP needs, the official version is now as good as mine.

Alright kool..I'm actually using ur multirom recovery anyways-its epic btw

I must've misread those instructions then. Does one just rename the file and not the extension?
Yes, the method of flashing through external SD card requires renaming the file, but not changing the extension. It's actually very important that the extension not be changed, otherwise HBOOT won't pick up the file properly.

Been trying this and the image is not recognized, I can see that its loading "06BDIAG" and it says wrong image when it finds 0P6BIMG, am I in the wrong place? Also have ***Tampered*** showing.

Thanks

That method only works if you're S-OFF. Are you? And what file are you renaming, exactly?

Thanks for your response, yes S-off on Verizon M8, unlocked via Sunshine. I downloaded the recovery program TWRP file and renamed it per the instructions to the 0P6BIMG.zip but do not change extension...correct?

I'm just trying to find out where you got the file. The latest versions I posted in that thread aren't in zip files.

The latest (non-test) versions are either the official TWRP (from the TeamWin site) or downloaded through the MultiROM app, so I'm confused as to exactly what you downloaded.

I see what you're after, to be honest I was having a hard time finding the file at the link at the top of the page, I guess I can't say for sure now where I got it. I have re-downloaded TWRP_Recovery_2.8.0.4_M8_CPTB (image), not sure how to load since this is not a .zip a little confused..

Thanks

There are instructions in the OP of my thread for fastboot flashing an image file.

Cap'n just curious as to what diff is between your twrp and 'official' versions? Going to have to flash it now anyway, since EarlyMon prefers pointing folk your way

If I'd have had my wits about me, I'd have been recommending it sooner.

Universal, and supports moving install zips without rebooting (I need to remember that as well, I'm doing a lousy job not putting that in for people in distress).

Plus - I can't stress how much more I like the theme. :)

His thread (linked in the OP) has a FAQ addressing some of the differences from the official version.

Not that I'm speaking for him mind you, I just wanted to chime in again how much I like it.

Yep had to slap a theme on mine. Probably being thick but what does moving install zips mean, via built in file manager?

Cases where everything is wiped away - if adb sideload fails, and there isn't an SD card reader available, how to get a rom.zip over to the phone? I'm thinking that a simple usb connection to the pc and MTP will do.

Ah gotcha, always OTG as well (done that before with a USB drive on 'official' version when formatting data on N7 to f2fs).
