Ubuntu!!!!

How are you liking Arch?

I'd like it a lot more except I installed gnome 3 and I really don't like what they've done. I know, I know it's customizeable and blah blah blah, but it's just not my thing. BUT, that said, I want to see how it developes. I also have KDE on it but I like that even less.

I might end up uninstalling gnome completely and going with xfce. I'd like to check that out. In fact, now you got me thinking. :D

But as far as Arch itself goes, it's more of a continuing project for me. I log on usually a few times a week to tweak and polish things. It's like a hobby where the idea is to spend time with it, like a guy in a garage building his dream car. In that sense it's a lot of good nerd fun. I'd recommend trying it. Plus it's a rolling release, so there are no versions to speak of.
My plan is to get Arch where I want it then back it all up so I can take it where ever I go for life. How awesome would that be.

Want to try something thats really bleeding edge?
Ubuntu 11.10 is in Alpha 2 ...and running Linux Kernel 3.0-rc5.

I'm an Ubuntu user who tried 11.04, and went back to 10.04. 11.04 had too many glitches, which may have been fixed by now, but at the release time it just soured me on the release. It is not long term support, and I don't really care for the new interface. Now, when 12.04 comes out, I will switch to it, probably, but may switch to LXDE for my desktop.

I asked because i'm a former Mint convert so i'm always curios what other ubuntu/munt users think of arch. Linux MInt was my distro of choice before i tried Arch. Now that i've given Arch a chance and actually took the time to set it up i feel like ive learned more and continue to do so using Arch compared to Mint and distros alike.

Arch Wiki has very good documentation (which i love) and pacman (which i also love) and the AUR is nice aswell.

You should defentiley give xfce a try. Very lightweight, then install various gnome and/or kde programs that your used to on top of it is nice. It's like getting the best of both worlds. lol

In the end though i stick with Arch cause i have a system setup the way i want it aswell as learning from it. And if something usually breaks its cause i caused it! :D

I've used it since Sep. '09, and could never completely ditch windows, but I still use it. kubuntu 11.04 is nice, but I've been trying arch, and loving it

Just upgraded to 11.04 (via 10.10). I like its cleaner appearance and compiling looks to work with no issues.

Tried to get compiz cube working though and lost the file and application lenses from the launcher though. Not the end of the world mind.

Upgraded to 11.10! Dont use LightDM as display manager if you are upgrading

I had huge issues. Hanging at "Checking Battery State" because of this. Even afterwards, I tried to remove lightDM on a second upgrade on a fresh install of 11.04 and it did not go well.

Very happy with my fresh install of 11.04 I have no though.

Anyone use VNC on ubuntu? Tried to get a couple of android apps to connect to x11 VNC server, but just get connection refused.

What VNC is anyone else using between ubuntu and Android?
