Root [UK only] Restore my Desire to pre rooting state.

Hello,

Walsall
West midlands.
United Kingdom.

Require someone to sort out my rooted HTC Desire.
I get this message when I try to run ClockwordMod.
Clockworkmod recovery E:Can't find MISC: - xda-developers

I'll bring the phone to you.
I want ClockworkMod removing and an alternative backup/ROM programme installing (e.g. AmonRa)
Unfortunately I have no technical understanding to do it myself.

Feel free to ask for a reasonable fee.
Thank you.

Mohammed Saeed.

I used unrevoked3 which rooted my HTC Desire
BRAVO PVT4 ship S-ON
HBOOT 0.93.0001
Radio 5.11.05.27
---
However, it also installs ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.7
When I tried to load ClockworkMod it said:

E:Can't find MISC:
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/command
E:Can't find MISC:
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/log
E:Can't mount MISC:
---
Then when I actually press 'backup' and it states:

SD Card space free: 2903MB
Backing up boot...
Error while dumping boot image!
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/log
E:Can't mount MISC:

---
Apparently ClockworkMod doesn't work with the latest versions of desire, and you need to do a number of steps (which are too complicated for me) to remove it, and install AmonRa instead (see the last post on this page).

I just need someone to do these simple steps for me.
Or return to stock.
Whatever will allow me to start making backups, since I can't at the moment.

I really can't. It took me 2 nights to figure out how to root !

I don't have the time to figure out how to move files from one place to another, and install zips, and img files and flash RUU and ROM's etc etc etc.

I'm really surprised there aren't well established places for complete newbies to go and get their phones altered (at least here in the U.K).

Bottom line.
I'm willing to travel 1 hour from Walsall (WS2 9BS) to come to you to get my phone sorted.

seriously, your best off learning yourself
the folks in the Desire root section will be a great help, and soon you'll be laughing about this :)

If you cant backup, Im wondering if you have a PVT4 device with an erase size of 40000

Lets find out.

Boot to Hboot... (Turn off phone, hold vol down and press power).

Read the line that says PVT. Is it 4?

If so, pull the battery out then turn on the phone.

Download and install "Terminal emulator" from the market.

Run Terminal emulator.
Type "cat /proc/mtd" and press enter

Check the erase size values. Is it 20000 or 40000

Just did it.

Yipeeeeeeeeeeee ! Thanks Su root

I am now on that green system recovery screen.
which option shall I select?

-Nand backup
-Nan + ext backup
-Backup Google propeietary system files

I have just read something about partitions on the SD card. Do I have to do this? Or can I leave things as they are, as I am not confident in messing about with partitions.

if its a rom with a2sd+ then use nand + ext

you only need to partition the SDcard if you have a rom that requires an ext partition (a2sd+/data2sd/data2whatever)

Quick question, before rooting did you get the RUU for your phone - or is it just Orange phones that come as PVT4/40000?

I think PVT4 referse to a different chips set architecture, but only very slightly different. PVT4's are on any network.

Yes its a different NAND chip which has been used at factory, it appears accross all GSM models. Not all PVT 4 devices have this chip though.

I have not seen a DVT 4 (CDMA equivelant) with 40000 yet though.
