trying to remove the bloat from my ascend through root explorer
i make it say r/w but when i go into the cust file it switches itself back to r/o
still says "cannot be deleted because file system is read only"

trying to remove the bloat from my ascend through root explorer

If you tap on the r/o while you are in the folder you want to delete things in, it will stay that way. You have to do it within each folder you want to delete in. Right after you delete the apps, then reboot your phone and you will have a ton of room!!

im not seeing the option in any folder other than the first one when you open it
When you open a new folder, it still should be right on top, I just checked my root explorer and that is what it says for each folder, you have to tap the r/o to change it to r/w. The little gray button there. You do have the phone rooted?? Just making sure!

hmmm mine doesnt have the grey button on the top of each folder

Maybe uninstall and redownload. I had weird things happen. I did purchase the app but got told that it should work like that. It says superuser permissions when it starts up, then it should have the button on top.
I have had some issues in the past few days and everytime I reinstalled, it fixed it.

If memory serves, there is somethings in there that you need to keep. Otherwise some things might not work. My phone is flashing to cm7, using ROM manager, so I can't look at my folder right now.

I can attest to this. yesterday somehow I deleted the calendar sync file and I had to flash to 2.1, reinstall 2.2 and do a whole bunch of downloading and rerooted the phone to get it empty, so be really careful on the deleting file!!

Very weird, it should give you the little gray box on top with r/o in it, then you just tap that and it changes to r/w, pretty easy. When in doubt, I just hard boot it, up vol/send key and then tap the power button. then just choosse reboot and press the ball in the center and sometimes this makes things work too. Learned that way too many years ago with PC's, reboot will work most times.

Make sure you have the newest version of Root Explorer. The older versions won't work.idk how im gonna remove this bloatware if my root explorer doesn't wanna work

I am having the same problem, it cycles like that with cm7. I just did it all this afternoon and everything else is awesome, love the speed and the room, but this is not good, I like my wifi, many places I use it to get info quicker since we do not have 3g here yet!

I am using a wep password to access my router, I have the correct password in the phone, it just cycles through.For those of you having wireless connection issues at after installing new ROM, I have a solution.
Check your phone for the NEW WIFI MAC address that it received after the ROM install.
Settings>About Phone>Status>Wi-Fi MAC address
For those of you that are security conscious and have locked down your home LAN to only allow wireless access to the MAC addresses in your MAC filter list, you will need to update that list with your phones new MAC addy.
Not to be critical of the folks who so graciously provide the free ROMS and or work to provide detailed information about how to install them BUT, it would have been nice to know that little bit of information as I had no idea that installing a custom ROM would change a phones MAC address.
NOW I don't have to worry so much about the sdcard issue since I can go back to using ESFile Explorer to connect to my LAN. whew!
I will try and see if I put the mac address in there if it makes a difference. Forgot, I do need to let the router find the phone, then it will let it in. Thanks!! Been many a moon since I did this!!

What root explorer?
On mine I use the paid app called (duh!) Root explorer. If it doesn't stay mounted you may have a slight corruption. Uninstall and download over wifi or strong 3g and try again.
Or flash playful mod
Oh, and cust folder 100% safe to delete.

Sometimes if you flash cm7 via rommanager wifi breaks, I dunno why...
Try downloading straight from the wiki at prepaidandroid.org and flashing manually.
If you already did that try flashing a fresh download and fixing permissions via cwm
Hahaha hey I got one for yea that I have not seen anyone complain about. Was going along with your guide on down. after I did 1.1 I didnt really care for it to plain for me so was going on to cm 6. But when I was about to start the next steep I thought it looked like I had no 3g mobile network. After I got cm 6 installed I found out that yea it was gone. Proxy was empty so was port. It tries to connect but nothing and in menu it says mobile network is disconnected. Can you help? Huawei ascend cm6 cricket....

Could you update the root section to include using Gingerbreak to root 2.2 and Root Explorer to remove bloatware on 2.2? We get questions about that constantly. Thanks if you can find the time to do that, and enjoy your new Samsung Admire!
