INSTALLING CLOCKWORKMOD (CWM)

Download the cwm.zip---------> CWM Recovery.zip (Thanks to Jazzette for this from her icarus 1.1 guide)

make sure usb debugging is turned on (menu button, settings, applications, development, usb debugging)

boot your phone into debug mode (fastboot) press, in order, VOLUME ROCKER DOWN+END (HANG UP)+ POWER. your phone will stay at the huawei screen. attach to pc using usb cord.

open the cwm.zip and extract the files
open the cwm folder
open the following files (you may see the dos box open briefly, this shows it worked all file are labeled according to os, choose for your os)

adb
fastboot
install recovery

unplug your phone from the pc and remove the battery for ten seconds.

boot to cwm VOLUME ROCKER UP+CALL BUTTON+POWER

you should see a black screen with green text. you now have cwm

Ok need to know am I doing something wrong. I have rooted the phone prior to this using gingerbreak and I get all the way to the part where I am installing the three files adb,fastboot and install recovery. But when I get to install recovery it just says waiting for device...Did I miss something as I am booting it back up by pressing volume down,end and power and holding them for a few seconds after the Huawei screen comes up
I am working on installing CM7

Download Rom Manager from the Market and you can flash the recovery and cm7 with just the press of a few buttons
 
I had downloaded the rom manager and seen that . Trying it now I checked to back up current rom and to delete cache etc etc...crossing fingers

Ok is it suppose to look like it is doing something or is it suppose to just sit at the Huawei screen? if so how long as before trying to do the other it just sat at that screen too
 
It shouldnt sit on a screen at all with rom manager. What exactly have you done up to this in rom manager?
 
clockwork mod backup shows as current version and last version same
that is it. It never would go any further
 
rom manager asked to restart the phone in clockworkmod
and that is when it stays at the screen with the logo
 
So you flashed the 3.0.0.5 recovery correct? To enter Clockwork Recovery hold down the send key, volume up and tap the power.

Now you need to figure out which rom you want and what method you want to flash it. You can do it in rom manager or you can doing it manually in clockwork recovery. If you are doing it in rom manager click download rom adn then open up the ROMs by PlayfulGod and download it and then once download it will ask you if you want to flash. If you already made a back up check all the options on the pop up menu except for the back up current rom. Then it will flash it for you. Then once your phone reboots youll have cm7 then you need to go back to download roms and download the gapps.

If you want to do it manually (which I suggest) download the rom from here :CM7-Ascend - Prepaid Android
And download these gapps (Google apps) gapps-gb-20110828-signed 7.2.zip

Put both zip files on the root of your sd card (root meaning not in a file) and reboot into recovery by turning the phone off and holding the send and volume up key and tap the power.

Once in recovery go to wipe data/factory reset, then to wipe cache partition, then to advanced and wipe dalvik cache, then go to mounts and storage and format everything EXCEPT your sd card. (If you format your sd it will erase everything on it. So avoid that)
Then go to install zip from sd and then to choose zip from sd and then select the Rom zip file and flash it. Once it says its done go back to choose zip from sd card and flash the gapps.
Then once done with that go back to the main menu by hitting your back key and go back to advanced and select fix permissions. When thats done go back to the main and select reboot system now. And enjoy cm7

Your phone may get stuck on the boot screen because the 2 newest builds are set at 710 which some phones dont like booting at. So you may have to go to an older build if you cant boot it.
 
Ok figured out the biggest problem was that CWM did not install right. Now the phone is totaly CM7 thanks it looks cool. Only thing was that during the setup it was trying to connect to the market because I selected the apps from the list. Just re-run the 2nd zip? will that do it? Also what about GPS metro nav? or one better but free with traffic and all?

if you need metro nav i can upload it for you, or better yet i will upload @metro app, that way you can install it and go to @metro store via app and download all the metro apps that you want on cm7. Enjoy!!! metroappstore.apk
 
That would be great!!! Or is there a better one then the metronav? also is there a way to stop windows xp from keep asking for the driver for android or where is the driver. Huawei did have one I think but it is no longer there?

unzip and run pcoption and install the drivers, and when you plug your phone in just bring down the notification bar on your phone and tap usb mode... ascend usb drivers.rar

Well you want to go download those apps. You dont HAVE to have all those. I only download Youtube, Maps, Gmail, and Facebook from that list. When you download Maps you will get a navigation app by Google. I like it better then the Metro Navigator because you can do satellite views so you can actually see houses and stuff.

what he said, but the only app i use from metro is the nav and i also have google nav. :)
 
ok so found a little problem. When making calls or receiving them I am using a wired stereo headset and now I can not hear them but they hear me through the headset. Any ideas? settings etc? If I reboot then it works a couple of times but then back to not hearing through the headset. Also camera says not responding force close
 
Headset is a known issue. Some can get it to work by turning the phone off, plugging it in, and then turning the phone on.
 
I finally rooted and moved up to 2.3 (CM7), question is: How do I switch between running applications now? I have looked everywhere I could to find an answer but have yet to find a solution as there is no home button on the ascend. Any ideas?

Yeah tried that . Works one time then dead again. Do all the cm6/cm7 builds have this problem? Like the layout etc but really need the headset

Well guess I will have to go back to the stock or something until I can get a stereo bluetooth
any preferences on a low cost good stereo bluetooth? or a android version that works with the wired headsets?

cm6 doesnt have the head phone issue from my (POV)
 
Ok so until I get my stereo bluetooth I had to install 2.2.2 playfulmod 1.1
Is that the latest versio for one and the other thing is that it is slow but not too bad. But my clock is way off and I can not set the time zone or time etc. any ideas there?

Put it in airplane mode, set time, exit airplane mode, or dial*228 and send.
