Root ultimate ascend customization guide.

I have had this post up for a week with no answers. I have also posted this trend some where else with no luck. Will SOMEONE figure this out. How do I add a boot sound to icarus 1.1 rooted ascend? Come on people.
 
The I mod. EDIT. ZIP. Is the battery meter all it does? The reason I ask is that it took awhile to load and seams like alot of files. It did put a new battery gauge on my ascend icarus.

in Icarus its easy.

find what ya want as a bootsound, make it a .ogg and name it bootStrapSound.ogg. The put it in /system/media/ui.
 
I upgraded my phone to android 2.2 and I heard that rooting with this is harder... before I upgraded I did titanium backup and stuff from a different post and I had an app called superuser and I was just wondering if there is any way that I could root my phone without having that stay on my phone.

You can use gingerbreak to root it. And no, everything that uses root need superuser, hence why it gets installed when u root it ;)
 
Is it possible to do the upgrade to cwm6 completely through the phone or do I have to use a computer? My computer is down. If so what steps do I follow?

Once you have Rom Manager (download load it from the market) installed on your phone you can use it to get cwm but first your phone must be rooted.


1. search for and download gingerbreak 1.2
2. install gingerbreak 1.2
3. run gingerbreak and root your phone
4. go to the market and get Rom Manager and install it
5. run rom manager and from within it download and install the rom for your phone
6. take the two zip files you have CM7-Ascend-05212011-signed.zip and gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip and place them still zipped up on the sd card in your phone.
7. start clockwork rom manager and choice reboot into rom manager
8. follow the direction given here on how to proceed CM7-Ascend - Prepaid Android
You don’t need the metro off so skip that part but make sure you do back up your phone just in case you want to go back to 2.2.2
 
Now that all my contacts are gone and not coming back
im ready 2 do everything the right way...i had cm 7 installed
but got stuck at the screen boot loop..so i went back to 2.2
soo...my q is...cm 6 or cm 7..i heard of problems with the cm 7
but how is it now?

I have everything 2 install both....i just need 2 make sure i do it
all the right way...and with formatting my sd card under clockwork....do i lose everything?

Formatting &/or partitioning your SDcard will result in losing all SDcard data.Back it up to an external source if you want to re-install the data @ a later time.
 
i want to backup EVERYTHING ON MY SD CARD TO MY COMPUTER AND 2 MY EXTERNAL HD....

im holding off doing the cm 7 JUST SO i wont have any Problems and i know step by step of what im doing b4 i just jump in this time
 
I am new to all this flashing and android phones. I am on Cricket and have the ascend m860. It's running android 2.1. If I flash to Icaras or CM6 or CM7 will I be able to take advantage of Adobe Flash on my phone? It all looks pretty easy to do but why do it if I still can't use Flash?

Also, Which is the most stable rom to use?

The Ascend is not capable of viewing flash, due to hardware limitations.

One of the main reasons for installing any of the ROMs (IMO) is to get rid of the bloatware and increase speed.

I couldn't tell you which is better/more stable because so far I've only been able to install Icarus1.1 (much faster than stock). I seem to have one of the infamous "lazy Ascends", I've tried to install cm6 a couple times and failed...
 
Thanks for the help Nutmeg. I ended up taking my phone back and got a new one and the new one upgrades to CM6 and CM7 without freezing at all. I am trying out CM7 and everything seems to be working perfect except for some reason it wont send any MMS? I was reading through here and saw that MMS is supposed to work- I am on Cricket and using the lastest CM7 update. Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone have solutions to this problem?

If the reason to flash to Icarus or one of the CMx roms is to basicly remove bloatware couldn't you just Root the android 2.1 and use an uninstaller and get rid of the bloatware without killing your warranty? The only advantage I see to flashing is the ability to use App2sd. But Link2sd is supposed to work on droid 2.1..

If I can remove bloatware from droid 2.1 and Link2sd works in the same manor as App2sd why flash?

Any help is appreciated. Just tring to figure out if it's all worth it. I don't want to go screwing my phone up and lock it up where it's nothing more than a paper weight..

the reason peoples flash custom rom is, they are overclock and the stock rom isnt, please alot of other tweaks and settings to fully customizations. :D

Try one of two things:

1) Download APN MANAGER,{by 81 square},from the market.You will be given a choice of CRICKET or METRO.I selected my carrier(CRICKET),& left the other information blank & have SMS/MMS working just fine,however,you can find the rest of the APN information to fill in from other posts/threads here in the forum if you find it necessary to do so.

2) Go to voice dialer & say 'APN' & fill in the appropriate information per your carrier as listed above.

Alright, first off let me apologize for posting a thread thats probably been posted a thousand times. But, I am annoyed, and so here we go.

I went to the "Ultimate Ascend Customization Guide" and decided I would like to root this phone of mine. Well, I went on the stock Metro browser, and the file wouldnt download. I tried on Skyfire, and the page simply refreshed itself for an hour straight. I finally get it to work on Dolphin Mini, and the damn thing is "Having trouble parsing". -_- So, I download ASTRO, and guess what? "Error Directory z4root. 1.3.0.apk could not be loaded.

If its a user error, well, kindly tell me wtf Im doing wrong. If its something else, is there anything I can do to get around it?

As you may, or may not have noticed, im quite the novice when it comes to such things.
 
Finally got my CM 7 up and running....so in this process finally learned 2 always
back my contacts up on my google instead of under phone...and i will be good.

7 RUNS SMOOOOTH....i got it clocked so i wanna keep tweeking 2 see what all i can do
makes 2.2 look like trash..now i have to flash my girls phone to 7 tonight
 
Ok, So, after reading more and more I am starting to think that Incarus, CM6, and CM7 are just beefed up android 2.1 and not "actually" Android 2.2 ported to the ascend?

Also, Do I have to start with Icarus and work my way up or can I just pick one and flash it? And does "Everything" work on the phone with CM6? Including MMS for Cricket?
