Help Um, I think this battery issue will be a problem...

I feel like technology is accelerating way too quickly while battery research is being left in the dust.

They just aren't matching up anymore and if this doesn't change quick then it's just going to keep getting worse as new phones come out.

Probably why those battery powered cars never made it. Most of the problem comes from the size and heat issues. We want everything far too thin. We will eventually move on to something else that uses power differently or make another swap. Phones used to be for talking, now they are for Facebook.

On that note, I can't really say how my batter is doing. I was surprised to even get my phone "today". I got it on Friday (the 30th) at around 3pm. I charged it for an hour, played with it for a little, after setting it up and let it charge up a bit more. I then took it to work and put it in my glove box at 5:30. I got home around 11:30, hooked it back up to USB a few more times during the night to transfer stuff/sync things and the battery hasn't "died". It is pretty low and I will probably try to kill it and get a good full charge on it tomorrow as well. I plan to spend about a week going from full charge to no charge as much as possible, with the few charges while it's hooked up to USB and I'm fool around with some files.

Come this time next week I should have an actual opinion on the battery.

That is good news. I am still not sold on Seidio. I read an article that there was a study showing that the stated mAh is not what the tested mAh is.

For those of us not willing to buy a 3rd party battery we can get the stock battery for the Touch Pro 2. It is rated at 1500 mAh and would give you about 15% more battery than the current battery.

Right now I think I am doing well with the battery but in about a 8 months to a year when I need to replace the battery that may be a good option.

I am hoping to get an OEM battery from Verizon or HTC, either one. I believe someone said or had a link that mentioned a 2150mAh. I'm pretty sure it also needed a "larger" case... but let's be honest, this thing is THIIIIIN, a little meat on it's bones won't hurt, especially not in my manhands. I'd like to stay with OEM, if possible and I'd like to add at least 500mAh (I plan to put some heavy use on this thing).

I was hoping for battery life more like the moto droid. With 25 text 30 minutes of talking and looking up 10 addresses on the maps I could get 30 ish hours out of the Moto droid. (being really conservative with battery life)

I am hoping for at least 24 hours with conservative use. We'll see I am waiting for more reviews before buy it outright

My girlfriend has a Moto Droid and it has really done well in terms of battery life. She doesn't really do a whole lot. Not much syncing or constant browsing with her phone. I put the most miles on it with games and whatnot, but the battery has held up pretty well. It easily makes it 24 hours with moderate usage, moderate meaning browsing Facebook half of the work day and texting the other half and then me playing silly games on it for a couple hours at night.

I'd really just like to get 10-12 hours out of my Incredible, until I can get a large replacement/extended battery.

The phone should be auto-exiting programs, not draining the battery. I'm having the same problem of super battery drain, and one way or another, there is either an OS or hardware issue. I'm sure we'll find out soon enough when everyone else starts complaining.

I don't think it auto exits programs. Run a whole bunch of programs and then exit them and go to the home screen. Check my instructions and see what is still actually running in the background.

While those programs may not be taking up much power running in the background, they still are running.

According to Google, it auto-exits programs when something is idle and using too much of the phone's resources. I'm sure you can manually kill some running programs, but you shouldn't have to. The phone shouldn't drop 10% of its battery 5 minutes after coming off the charger, regardless of how you're using it. There is just something wrong here.

Constant messing with the phone since I got it on the 21st. No problems with battery since day one. I work 12 hours shifts, use my phone a lot at work and texting, pictures, wifi, gps... Never had a problem making it through the full day until I charge her up at night.

Well, then there may just be a quality control problem, with some people getting good phones and some getting bad.

Ok, time for an update. I've been reading the various threads, looking for an angle like everyone else, and the one about killing the mobile data (always-on option, not the mobile data connection) looked interesting. But, I realized that I haven't rebooted the device since it first booted after the programming, so I tried that. Big change.

Whereas before my numbers were like 96% Android, 2% Cell Use, 2% phone idle, they have now changed to 42% Cell standby, 38% phone idle, 14% android, 4% screen, 2% maps. My use has been about the same, except i'm in my home rural area, and not my work area that has better coverage, but more shielding inside.

Before, I was kicking anywhere from 40-85% time w/o signal according to the phone, and I've been 0% since my reboot.

I rebooted, put it on the charger, and took it off last night at 12am when it hit full. That was over 14 hours ago and I'm still showing more than 50% battery right now. That's after some app use, plenty of texts, and a youtube video.

If this is how it works going forward, the battery issue is satisfactory. Now I just need to see how it behaves when i get back to work on Monday and see if the battery/reception combo issue remains.

Hey guys,
I'm wondering if your battery life has improved after a few cycles of recharging? Mine seems to do much better now.

Hey guys,
I'm wondering if your battery life has improved after a few cycles of recharging? Mine seems to do much better now.

Nope, my battery still drains rapidly after multiple cycles.

I have an important update, as follows:

I went to the VZW store today to swap out my phone, and they didn't have any in-store to give me, nor did they have any new batteries. I told them that I thought the problem was the signal dropping in and out, and they acted like this was the first time they'd heard that. I went around to the various phones in the store and noticed that all the Incredibles were at -90 dbm, while the Droid Eris', for example, were at -70. It's clear there is some kind of signal problem here.

I called VZW customer service and they are sending me out a new phone, which I'm almost certain will not fix the problem, since is either a phone-wide hardware problem or a software issue. When I called VZW, I asked how many people before me had called about this issue, and the agent told me they had "absolutely no reported issues with the Incredible yet." That, of course, makes no sense, since one peek at this board will tell you there is a signal and battery drain issue.

The agent then told me that Verizon needs three customer complaints on a particular issue before it is sent to the manufacturer. So, they've logged my serial number - and I'm the first. We need a bunch of other people to call VZW customer service and say: 1) the signal is dropping out, toggling between 1x and 3g 2) The battery is dying far too quickly, possibly as a result of #1. If nobody calls, the issue WILL NOT be sent to HTC, and thus will not get fixed.

So everyone, please inundate VZW with phone calls and tell them the Incredible needs an update immediately.

I'll post this on the main board too, in case it gets lost in the shuffle of this thread.

Well, then there may just be a quality control problem, with some people getting good phones and some getting bad.

It is more likely that some received less sustainable batteries than bad phones.

Plus, the settings people apply or don't make a huge difference.

I understand that a lot of us are coming from non-smart phones, and I know a lot of us are coming from WinMo (like me) but it is our responsibility to check resources or we should go back to our Star-TAKs

I had a few "I am miffed at this phone" moments, but I worked through them and learned something. Often via this board.

Update time: The battery life continued to improve over the weekend. Again, I'm not killing any functionality, but by yesterday I was easily get 20+ hours w/ normal use. Then today happened.

Back at work, low signal, and the drain is on. With virtually no use, it lasted 12 hours today. So, I don't think it's a batter issue anymore, per say.

I think it's definitely a reception issue. The weird thing is that I tried out the Sprint Hero for a couple weeks at the same location and never had this type of battery draining issue. Who knows?

Either way, if the airplane trick doesn't fix it after the next recharge, the Incredible may be going back.

Did u check under applications-->running services to see what is possibly running in the background? You may be surprised what is still running.

thanks, i have stopped the skype and some other programs i have upladed. but there are so many more, without knowing the consequences i don't want to stop them being running on the background. which ones are essential to keep running?

What else do you have running?

90% charge this AM. From 8am-3pm I was texting pretty regularly, made a few phone calls, added a widget, did the airplane trick, ten minutes of GPS and nothing else.

Battery was at 5% when I plugged it in five minutes ago.

I'm usually near a charger but this is ridiculous I would assume. I understand this phone is twice as powerful as anything on the market but there has to be something going on here, no?

Hey guys,
I'm wondering if your battery life has improved after a few cycles of recharging? Mine seems to do much better now.

Much better. I went 24 hours unplugged and still 35% left.. that is with moderate use (browsing apps, playing a few games, tons of texting, a few calls, playing with Goggles and Barcode app-lol, etc.)

Okay, so after 4 charges.

I used to get around 5-6 hours. Now I have GPS off, mobile network NOT set to always on, wifi off, bt off, and I even turn off mobile network all together on my 45 minute commute to and from work and at certain times when I know I am not going to be able to check my emails, ect...

Now I am at around 14 hours.

I don't know if it is because off all the disabling off features, or the 4 charge cycles. All of my charge cycles have been when the phone has 1-2 bars left. Today after work I made sure to really hit it hard and killed the battery to the point where the phone shut down. I have it on the charger now and I am going to charge it overnight fully and hope that tomorrow it lasts more than 14 hours, but I am happy with 14.

I'm sorry to hear that. This does not make sense to me - I wish I could help you more but you obviously have something running that is just killing your battery. You could also have a faulty battery that happened with my first blackberry.

It's been 20 hours hours and I still have 30%/ 3 bars.

This is after my FIRST charge cycle AND I have been using internet, youtube, texting, 2-3 pictures, and lots of phone customization/tweaking.

I don't even have TaskKiller or an Extended battery yet.

NOTE Half of the 20 hours I have been in my basement where Verizon has to FIGHT HARD for a signal - the bars are at 0 but I can still make calls without being dropped. ATT + T Mobile don't work in my basement at all but Verizon is able to squeeze a signal somehow.

Doesn't seem to be killing my battery.

Go to settings, applications, running services -- and see what's running.

I think I hear your mom calling you. Dinner is ready upstairs. ;)

I took mine off the charger @ 7:30 this morning and it told me to plug it into the charger around 5:30. I looked at the battery usage and 89% was Google sky maps. I don't even remember launching that app. So it looks like I can get through a day pretty easy if rabid, stealth apps aren't running all day.

I took mine off the charger at 95% 13 hours ago. I'm at 48% right now, and used 3G, WiFi, calling and texting during the day.

Battery life seems to vary greatly, because I'm going to get more than 24 hours out of mine today/night.

yeah, my battery life is pretty awful, but i tour a ton. Have been in 5 states in the last two days... so is this a battery issue or a phone issue? Should I get a replacement battery or phone or just wait closer to the end of my 30 days?

Here's a pretty good tip I found on another Android-based site. I was getting maybe 8 hours on the Inc - with wifi turned off & constantly shutting stuff down with Astro. Granted have got a new playmate so we're texting like teens but still... Annoying...

A guy on the other site suggested checking your sync times for Google, GCal, etc. Even the onboard "Weather" app, which I thought I'd gotten rid of but can't, likes to sync like nobody's business. But check this out: the default sync for all of them is every 10 minutes! The Inc was constantly syncing!

Went into Settings/Accounts & Sync and went the extreme of unchecking Background Data and Auto Sync, although you could just make the times between syncs longer. I figure I'm just not high powered enough in the world to need to check my email every 10 minutes, never mind the damn weather...

Anyhow in contrast to the maybe 8 hours I was getting before on the stock battery, I'm now at 13 hours with 30% left. Nice!
