Help unable to factory reset

Hi all,

I have a stock Nexus I9250.

Running 4.0.2
Baseband I9250
Kernal 3.0.8-gaa2611 android build@apa28#1
Build number ICL53F.I9250ZSKL2

Basicly i tried to do a factory reset and it came up with an android laying on his back with an exclamation point in a red triangle. Leave it long enough the phone boots back to normal but my data is still there?? Now when i go through the motions to reset the final 'erase' button clicks but nothing happens??

I managed to get into the boot menu via volume buttons and power buttons. tried recovery mode but once again it sits there with a red exclamation mark and after a min or two fires.

Ideas??

Thanks in advance

I wonder if it's working but your data is syncing back. If you go to Settings > Backup & reset on the phone, do you have the box checked to "back up my data" to Google servers? When the phone reboots, are you having to re-enter your Google credentials or is it just straight up booting back to the fully functional stock rom as if nothing even happened?

The android laying down with a ! (stock recovery) is normal. You have to press and hold the power button, then tap the volume up button to access the stock recovery options from that screen.

Depends on how much of a reset you want to do.

If you want to NUKE the phone, you can do that in Settings --> Backup & reset

It will delete ALL user data and restore the phone to an out-of-the-box state.

i dont want to get to serious as it is sold as non modded stock phone. Just seems strange that it at least for the first time let me start the reset procedure but obviously failed in some way but now i can not even start the reset unless i go to the boot menu, being start, restart bootloader, recovery mode and power off. And when i do start the recovery mode it sits there with an android laying down chest open with a red triangle with an exclamation mark in it.

The backup settings are off and i manually removed gamil accounts so as to not re-sync data.

Is this a case of a damaged and i need to reflash?? Hopefully not as this scares the shinizzle out of me (what if i bugger it up more).

Thanks for the help guys, i have turfed the phone and canceled the sale, just safer that way plus i could never pass on a broken phone.

if you want you can try flashing a stock image. You'll have to use ADB "command line" It's really easy though. You would have to unlock the bootloader which takes about ten seconds, then once you're done you can relock it. This process would basically set it to how it was out of the box.
