Root unable to root SGH-I727 with easy root. Any advice?

I decided to try the odin way. Sorry for jumping all over the place. It appeared to do well except when I went to flash the superuser zip. I may not have put it on the external sd card properly. Should I be able to do it after the fact, start in recovery and then flash it? or do I need to start from the beginning?

I'm not familiar with ODIN, so I'll let someone else answer. Don't worry, I'm subscribed to this thread, so if you don't get any answers I'll jump back in. I just don't want to give you bad info as it looks like you are getting close. I don't want to set you back.

ok, thanx. I'll dig around a bit. I hooked my phone back up and the superuser zip is in the external sd folder, so Somewhere along the way I have an issue. I'll figure it out. I am on a mission now! I appreciate you hanging in with me to help work this out.

I have ROOT access!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It took some tinkering due to my low level of knowledge but persistence paid off.
I used the odin method from the link shared by pupkact
[MOD] ROOT | CWM | ODIN | SGH-I727 and SGH-I727R Skyrocket - xda-developers
The first few times did not quite do it. I was able to get odin to do it's thing and I'm pretty sure I was not placing the superuserzip in the right place.(and after I did figure out where to put it I had accidentally unzipped it so I deleted all of the random files I have accumulated during my root quest, went back to the above link, and re-downloaded. I made the rapid progress after digging around and finding the following video
How to Use Odin to Root & CWM, AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727 - YouTube!
This then gave me the visual reference to know what should be happening when I went through this process. I did try and flash the same rom that the person in the video uses, but was unsuccessful. I then went tried with the superuserzip again. The first time I had to flash it about five times before it appeared to do it's thing, but when I tried to reboot I got nothing but the samsung screen for way to long of a time. Good thing I watched this video and took the advice of doing a backup. I restored, went back into cwm and then proceeded to flash the superuserzip 8 times before it appeared to do it's thing. I rebooted and I heard angels singing and victory canons fireing, true story, except the angel and canon part. I verified root with root-checker. Titanium backup is up and running. I will now remove all of the bloatware which is one of the main reasons I wanted root access to begin with. To anyone who may read this in the future, be cautious but be bold,if you are unsure about what you are doing I would recommend using odin just to get to clockwork mod and do a full backup and save to pc before flashing, or easy rooting, or one clicking any root program.
Thank you sooo much pupkact for taking the time to give me advice.

i tried this just now and bricked my phone....awesome, iphone was way easier to jailbreak than this.

Let us know what steps you used, and where you are hung up. You can see I spent a few days with rockironweb to get him set up. You are in the right spot, AF, for getting help. I saw you somewhere else, you are trying to root from a Mac, correct. Stick with it and these forums, we'll get you straightened out. I would recommend you start a new thread specific to your issue, PM me with a link to the URL and I'll get on it. And BTW, welcome to the forums:D

Well i switch to my wifes pc to fo this and when i ran thru the process of getting thru Rom from my SD it said error and then when i backed out it did a reboot that stayed at the Samsung screen....luckily i was able to restore to normal

OK, can you paste a link to the instructions you tried. And I'll ask again how far you made it, and where you ran into problems. Also, I recommend you starting a new thread as it is easier for the folks that are smarter than me to pick up on as it you are mac / iPhone experienced so it will probably be a somewhat different conversation.

Do you know how to remove the clockwork garbage I installed on my phone....I really don't feel like trying.g to root my phone anymore be aide I'm nervous to brick this thing

As you will see in my earlier posts, I am not familiar with your phone. I will offer any help I can, but hesitate to as I don't want to make your situation worse:D.

Often on these forums, folks see threads and begin reading them. They get to a point where they see the OP's problem has been solved with a nice description of how it was solved (as has happened here with rockironwebb:)) and stop reading figuring followup posts are just noise. I know this sounds odd, but that is often the case with threads.

That is why I recommended you start a new thread and I am again recommending it. Create a new thread with a good title and do your best to describe where you are, how you got there, and what you are trying to accomplish. This will get specific attention to your problem and hopefully the help you need.

When / if you do start a new thread, you can PM me (in case I don't catch it) the link and I will subscribe to it and again, offer help where I can.

I hope this helps and that I can help in the future.:)
