Help Unable to silence text by side buttons

I cant quickly silence incoming text message but i can tap the volume and silence incoming calls , any ideas ? I have sprint galaxy lte .
 
How long is your txt notification??? Try using a shorter one. Sorry, that's the best I can come up with.
