Root Unable to Temporary Root Droid X

Newbie
I am running a Droid X with 2.3.340 installed. I installed version 1.3 of z4root and it will not work to give me temporary root access. Sometimes z4root just runs for a long while and, after it is stopped and the phone rebooted, running z4root again seems to work but Titanium claims that it can't get root privileges. Any ideas folks? Thanks in advance for the help.

P3droid and others have said they could not get it to work anymore but is that true?no idea since I have not needed to reroot but also why temp root have you tried perm root?

I used it a while back on my gf's phone, had to sbf last week and put it back on and it never did work. Don't know how or why it doesn't work but with her phone I had to use another method. It would just sit there then shut itself down and nada.

I used z4root a couple weeks ago and it worked fine. After I installed it I rebooted the phone before i ran it because I heard it helps. After it booted back up I ran it and I was rooted within a minute. As for your Titanium problem maybe try this

Today, my Titanium Backup app could not get Superuser permissions, which is weird because I use it all the time. I clicked on the Problems? button to redownload BusyBox and all is good now.

You may have to remove the old Superuser.apk before using Z4root. I had the same problem and that is what I had to do using XDA's fix for this.

I ran across a YouTube video on the Droid X forums that showed how to root and backup the DX. The narrator used z4root and claimed that temporary rooting is not available for the DX but it is for other phones. Anybody can confirm this?

Make sure you are using the latest version of z4. The first time I tried it, I couldn't gain root. I was using version 1.0.0. Then I found version 1.3.0, the latest I think. Installed it and rooted on the very first try. I may be wrong, but I think v1.0 is for Eclair 2.1 and v1.3 is for Froyo.

They said it was not working on versions newer than .340. But that it was working fine on .340.

Thanks Android_Life. Installed and used Visionary as you suggested, then installed Titanium. Titanium worked as it should.

No problem, glad I could help out.
That's what this place is all about.

In return, I will do some backflips LoL!

Hey there Android_Life I did the thanks. Don't hurt yourself doing those backflips - I may need you for more advice in the future! :)

When you unroot using Visionary, does it remove the Superuser app? That's my one complaint about Z4 Root. For what it's worth, I could never get the temporary root to work with Z4 Root either.

I did not try to unroot it. I figured I would leave it as is since the phone works as it should. Is there any reason that leaving it rooted is a problem?

You will want to leave your device rooted so you can continue to enjoy the benefits of root.
You will need to leave root especially if you are using applications that require Root access/Superuser privileges.

The only time I will remove my root is if I need to return my device.

That's exactly why I had to unroot my phone yesterday. Getting rid of the Superuser icon was a maddening experience, but I finally got it done. I hope not to need to do that again.

There in fact several ways you can remove the SuperUser app...
I don't have time to explain now, I am on my way out the door to venture out on the icy roadways.
Will post up methods later.
There are also several posts where this is discussed here.
Read up here on the forums, this place is rich in knowledge :D
