Root Unfortunately, Package Installer has Stopped?? - On Viper4G 3.0.1 ROM

Hello...

I tried to obtain today free Amazon AppStore Free App, downloaded and attempted to install, however, I received the message:

Unfortunately, Package installer has stopped

I thought maybe this was a cache or data issue so I did various combinations of clearing cache and data, re-entering my login information and attempted the download. No luck; same error message.

I then uninstalled the app, downloaded the apk from the Amazon site and tried to reinstall the Amazon app. I could not even install that Amazon apk!!

I do not know if there is only a problem with Amazon-related stuff...both their app and any downloads/updates from the app store. Of if there is a problem with ANY apk that try to install from a 3rd party or otherwise from the internet or residing on my SD card?? Perhaps a problem with the ROM??

My Google Play updates and fresh downloads work fine without any error message.

Any thoughts??

Sorry for the delay...family in town, work, craziness...

Don't think it's a space issue. Via Titanium Backup I got:

Internal: 2.27 GB (1.22 GB free)
Media 2.14 GB (778 free)

With the Viper4G 3.X ROM and I'm running any sort of DarkTremor Apps2SD so the apk installs are internal, right??

Also, I have no problem installing anything from Google Play either fresh or updates and can reinstall a backed up apk via Titanium.

I just can't seem to 3rd-party-apk install anything that I download from the internet like the Amazon App Store. I was able to install the Amazon apk from my Titanium Pro but was looking to fresh install the app from a fresh download.

ODD.......any other thoughts?? Still trying to figure out if this is an odd ROM issue or "just" a phone issue...??

i wonder if you can just move the .apk on to the system/app. not sure if that will work. not really sure what is up with that. you said you are running dt, correct? do we have one for this phone? i never have needed to use it yet.

No, no...no dt. As you said, I found not needed on this phone either.

I'm just trying to figure out if this is a ROM issue or something else. I'm using Viper4G latest 3.0.1.

not sure if it is or not as i have not heard of this issue. I was on an earlier build of this rom and did not have this occur. however, i have yet to flash the current version yet. i have been stuck on aosp(pacman and now root box) for a few months now. i do not have an urge yet to go back to sense.

have you searched the viper thread over at xda? you can try what i mentioned earlier except i think the apk needs to be on data/app.

Can I do this using Titanium?? PROBLEM is that I cannot find the VenomPackageInstaller.apk file with Titanium!!

Now if you look at the above screenshot (using ES File Explorer) that I took from the XDA forums, the apk to freeze has ".bak" extension. I had read a long time ago...I think...that renaming the file in the above .bak manner will work to freeze the file.

Is this what was done above...just to rename it?? How else do I go about freezing a file??

correct. by renaming the file, the phone can't recognize the file thus sort of freezing it. you can always rename it back again later if need be.

And that's what I did...appended ".bak" and followed the instructions over at the XDA link I posted earlier in this thread including flashing a file as instructed and IT WORKS!! I can now install Amazon Apps and Updates and, I presume, any other 3rd-party apk files downloaded from the internet.

I guess I never realized that Titaniums automated "freeze" function did not explore and permit freezing of apk files residing in .system/app
