Help Unfortunately, Touchwiz Home Has Stopped??

Mallissa

Android Enthusiast
Everytime I click my home button to open task manager, I am getting this message "Unfortunately Touchwiz Home Has Stopped." I have searched the forums and tried every solution from clearing Touchwiz data, to developer options settings. Most of the solutions I have seen are for the S3 and S4, but I haven't seen them on the Note 3. It's really annoying. Any idea?

Go to the Google Play store and install "Nova Launcher”, then when it has finished installing press the home key and set Nova Launcher as default.

She might like TW though, some of us do you know. :)

While a solution of sorts, it doesn't solve the problem. TW should not force close.

Mallisa, had you installed or altered anything at all just before this started happening?

I tried Go Launcher, and unfortunately I am either to stupid or to impatient to figure it out. LOL I have Nova right now, but I downloaded that after the issue started. I guess I just want to be able to use either one, and also know that my phone works they way it's supposed to.

I have had a lot of downloads lately, mainly Samsung apps, so I'm not even sure when it began. The last thing I personally downloaded (not an update) was a few days ago, and it was a weather widget. I uninstalled it then did a battery pull, restarted, and the issue was still present. I am not opposed to using a 3rd party launcher, but I am finding that the launcher I like has very few themes available. I see themes that cover several launchers, but when I download them, they don't work. I tried using a theme with Go Launcher, that I downloaded from the play store, and it said I needed to purchase it using credits?? Ugh, I would love to be more tech savvy. By the time it's all said and done, this phone will be making me do all the work!

Uninstall the updates one by one (if it'll let you) you can always reinstall then if they are not the culprit. Otherwise I'd try a factory reset from recovery mode. Phone off volume up and hold home key and hold and finally power key and hold. Hold all three together and release instantly on first sign of boot up. Find factory reset there and do it, then reboot. I'm not sure it will work and it will make your Note 3 like new out of the box so you have to reset it all up. Personally I'd monitor this thread first to see if anyone else comes up with a better idea, a rebuild is a bind to do, especially if a factory reset doesn't solve your problem.

Find an item in the Manage Apps list called Launcher. That's the TouchWiz Launcher. Tap it and clear the data. If should fix the issue.

If I do this, will it clear out all of my homescreen shortcuts, widgets, etc? I have the same problem, but only see it the first time I unlock the screen after a reboot.

That is a good question! :) I am running a rom without TW so I can not test it for you and don't know.

Wondering if TW has a place to backup it's settings? Seems like, if it did, that we be a way to hedge your bets and give it a try.

Have you disabled the Magazine app? I read that with this app disabled it can cause TW to stop responding like that. I am having the same issue occasionally and I have Magazine frozen with Titanium Backup, so it's at least possible this could be your issue as well.

If the Samsung backup is turned on a restore should overwrite whatever broke in Touchwiz. Need to have set it up though, with a Samsung login. It is in the phone Settings - General - Accounts - Samsung.
