Root Universal 1 Click Eris App Apk - No PCs, No Scripts Needed, EASY

Yeah, I don't have any experience with the Incredible. I know its an HTC phone, but this custom recovery is specific to the HTC Droid Eris.

It also doesn't have alternate keys for the volume-down button (i.e., to return to the prior menu screen), just for the functions normally used for the trackball.

I assume you've asked in the Incredible all-things-root sub-forum?

I HAD a incredible and i rooted it fine. This eris I have now won't let me use the trackball. Plus it just sux as a phone.

Aha, sorry I mis-understood...

Well, my tweaked custom recovery for the Eris will replace the trackball functionality, but not the volume-rocker issue you've reported.

There is a very technical alternative involving using the Android SDK and the adb utility, but its not really for the faint-of-heart, LOL... It involves issuing the wipe and flashing commands from the adb shell...

Let me know if you want me to point you in that direction (I'd have to dig-up the thread, but be warned that I'm not the author of that particular method and can't do much more than direct you to it...it makes quite a few assumptions about your proficiency with the SDK and boot-level operations...).

I think I'm just gonna use my upgrade and get a different phone. Hopefully the Bionic will get here soon! Thanks for your help.

Resurrecting this ancient thread, because I have an old Eris in great condition that I want to root and update to a newer ROM so I can install the Sonos app and use it as a wifi-only music controller. When I try to download the 1-click apk file, I get a message saying "This account's links...have been temporarily disabled"

Anyone know another place where I can get this apk?

LOL, I might know a guy...

Hang on...just a sec...

Okay, here's a modified version of the .apk file (I modified it with jcase's permission :) to include the tweaked custom recovery I made that does not rely on the usage of the trackball):

See the bottom part ("Scenario 5") of this post:

and jcase's thread over at XDA for usage info:

By the way, there are probably about 6 or 10 ways to actually root the Eris at this point--I manually re-rooted mine using the same mid.txt exploit that jcase uses in the app just a couple of months back...was fun! :)

Cheers and enjoy!

Awesome! I have to say, I wasn't expecting a response at all, let alone within the hour. I was on my way to find one of those other 6 or 10 ways you mention, but I have zero experience with this kind of stuff, and this way definitely looks the easiest. Thanks!

The Eris brought me here to AF (it was my first Android device -- I still have it--it's in great condition, too!).

The rest of the Android community and the folks here at AF kept me coming here :).

I'm still here :).

Yeah, seems like a great community! I got the phone rooted, no problem (though I discovered that the volume rocker has disappeared, so I either have to jam a pen into the side of the phone to use the volume buttons...or nagate with the trackball. Ironic, given your mod to jcase's work :)

One more question: got a recommendation and a source for a ROM upgrade? Looks like I need at least Froyo to run the Sonos app. I've done some searches, but found nothing but dead links so far.
