I understand the fear and anxiety some go thru pondering rooting but I swear to God it takes like 5 minutes using this guide here: How to Root - Android Forums
It really is so so easy, cannot brick the phone.
Looks like a no: [APP] [ROOT] 1-click root for N1 (Latest ver: 1.6.2 beta 5) - xda-developersThat's not my question. My question is:
Does Universal Androot support the Verizon Samsung Fascinate? Yes or no?
Yeah thats the bummer all Galaxy S are not the same and as usual Verizon did an extra butcher job on their model. If your friend does not mind waiting their might be a solution sooner or later. Or you could try walking him/her it over the phone or net. I had never rooted a smartphone before I did it with my fascinateThanks, that's what I wanted to know. I was confused because it does support the Galaxy S for ATT, but apparently there is enough of a difference that it doesn't work for Verizon, even thought it's basically the same phone.

I know typical. Its like we're just hearing rumors of Froyo leaks for the Galaxy S which probably means once those of us actually make the unofficial move the official will be out a few days/weeks laterYeah I used an older guide to root my mt3g and then a couple weeks later Androot supported it, lol.

Allow me to dig for youI tested the method linked in post #2 and it worked well.. took about two minutes (as a matter of fact, it prompts the user with a question, "are you sure you've waited a full two minutes?").
I used Root Explorer to get rid of some of the fatware, but I'll have to do some digging around to find out what is really safe to remove beyond the obvious ones.. with the Eris I did a lot of trial and error, having to re-flash ROMs left and right after finding out that 90% of the Google stuff etc was integrated into the system.
Apps that are safe to remove once rooted - Android ForumsThanks, Saps. Most on that list I'd already removed.. but I was wondering about Bing; good find.![]()

Quite right. A bunch = 75%I think the biggest hardware difference between The Fascinate (and Epic) and the other Galaxy S phones is that they are CDMA while the others are GSM. Even though they have the same screen, processor and graphics chip, the CDMA hardware differs quite a bit from the GSM system. On top of that you've got the Sprint one with a keyboard and the Verizon one missing a bunch of memory. All those differences might be enough to throw the current one-click root crop for a loop.

Not sure your comment was directed at me or not. But the 75% I [and I think SirKronan] was referring to was the 2GB of internal "ram" vs the 8gb on the other Galaxy S's. Otherwise, again you are spot on in your remarksthe fascinate isnt missing any memory compared to the other galaxy (or android, for that matter) devices. it has 512 just like the others, but 128 of it is dedicated elsewhere, and not available for apps and the like. when i look at available memory on my x and fascinate side-by-side, they are almost nearly even, but with the fascinate almost always ahead by a little bit.
it's not worth much worrying about anyway, since 2.1 isnt capable of recognizing 512 anyway. i know this is off topic from the op, just thought i would chime in with my $.02, because i dont want people thinking they got some under-tuned version of the other galaxy s line of smartphones.

only kidding. but seriously, i would really like to know their reasoning behind this. was it samsung? was it vzw who requested it? any why on earth did they do it?Agreed, especially since that is the default/reference spec [8gb]. On the other hand making lemonade out of lemons. Even with the lag fix and over 100 apps Im still not using half of the internal ram storage. When I found out the sd card was class2 I almost wanted tooh, i wasnt directing it at anyone in particular. i just know there is some confusion about this. but, turns out i was confused about what you guys were taking about. in that respect, yes, that is the one and only drawback i find about this phone, that i wish they would have given us a little more. thankfully we get a 16GB card, where the vibrant only gets a 2 that is almost completely used up by avatar. i just wish they woulda done 8/16 across the board like the d2/dx did.
but I havent really noticed anything wrong with it during playback of 720p video or any of the DVD's I put on my SF so I suppose I won't complain there either1) All signs point to it being VZWit really makes me wonder 3 things:
1.) WHO made this decision.
2.) what were they on?
3.) and, where can i get some, cause it obviously jacks you up pretty good.
