Universal Androot

I uninstalled RM and reinstalled. Then I Installed Titanium Backup and updated BusyBox. Now it's giving me a different error message. Ugh! This is so fustrating.

Have tried flashing a different recovery image other than v2.5.0.1? Maybe try RA or an older CM recovery

If I run universal androot, do i lose all my apps/settings... Will I have to reinstall everything and reconfigure my phone?

Error when using universal androot... I think i have to go back to and older RUU, will this loose my stuff..

Universal androot v1.6.2 beta 6

HTC Hero firmware 2-1-update 1
baseband: 2.42.01.04.27
Kernal: 2.6.29-ba77cf03
Build: 2.31.651.7

Yes - You can just root -
But Trust me....you will end up playing with ROMS once you see how easy it is.
I am Super non-tech and having a blast!

OK - two options -
I HAVENT run this root - so i can't confirm everything.
Look again in your app tray for the darkstar Recovery -
You may have to reboot into recovery to access (this is the part im not sure of.)
turn phone off - hold power and down volume to turn back on. hit home to recovery menu
Then you can pick install app from SD card - then reboot.

2nd option - download rom manager and use that recovery then repeat steps above!

Thanks for the Help man - All looks and works good... One last thing, using the stock rom how can I add app2sd to this? is there a zip file i can just flash over?

Unfortunatly you can't add Apps2SD on the Stock Rom -
You need a Rom that has it set up - NFX ( STOCK SPRINT rooted with fun toys like wireless tether) can do it but you will have to Partition your SD Card (be sure to back up - partition will wipe your SD Card )

OR - you can go with a Froyo ROM - CM6 or AOSP - Both are 2.2 and allow apps to SD.
Then just download SDMove from the market.....

I am running aosp.9.6 and loving it....fast and great battery life.
If you need any more help give me a holler!

Also - did you find the darchstar recovery or use rom manager?

Look at you your turning into a root Ho, LOL I bet when you were pondering and were wondering to pull the trigger you never thought you be helping others root, go my little Kama'aina, proud of you, you have come a long way in the past month, Kudos to you

again thanks... - I guess I may have to look into some of those roms... Im seeing alot of camera or GPS issues with them and I use both of those often..

As for the recovery, I found darchstar recovery. I guess i wasnt holding downt he home button long enough for it to boot to recovery for me to flash it.

No issues with the camera or GPS in the CM6 or aosp roms. GPS issues can be fixed by downloading GPS Status from the market. GPS Status would fix any issue with gps on any rom, as far as I know;)

andy - are you having GPS status issues with AOSP?
Im am fine on .9.6 -

reldridge - andy and I would both love to help with any questions....

see - I threw andy under the bus! HAHA
'

Thanks guys - So few questions... First where can I get these roms, and when/if I go with one of them what is the best method of saving my apps/settings/emails to get back up and running....

Well - good news. They are easy to find on XDA - Sign up (free) Just go to the CMDA Hero section - android development -

bad news - You have to wipe when you flash a custom rom - and in the case of cm6 and AOSP - you even have to reinstall voice mail (sprint) and google apps (market etc)
Then Re-setup your phone. (i am getting pretty fast!)

Good news - this is all WAY easier then it sounds.
