Help Unlocking the phone with a different button?

+1 on waking the phone with optical AND swiping the unlock screen down to actually unlock the phone. Others are scoring badly in reading comprehension.

I think what you are saying is that you simply want the ability to "wake-up" the screen by pressing the optical pad. I agree. I still want to swipe to unlock. Lockbot works some of the time, but is fairly inconsistent.

This is exactly what I would like. IMHO it should be an option. Maybe in future update.

All i want is the optical joystick to wake it up, I don't want the volume rocker to wake it. Am I too picky or what? I just feel the volume rocker will be easily pressed in my pocket...

Crap, now my no lock is doing the "press and hold" or "press more than once" thing. Worked perfectly until now. Still not complaining...it does work, just takes a second longer.

you're not too picky. I want exactly what you are referring to as well.

why is is hard for other people to understand? I want to get to the Swipe to Unlock screen by either pressing the power button, or the trackpad button, NOTHING ELSE.

In lamens terms, i want it to behave exactly like an iPhone. Don't tell me about what other apps can do or cant do, i don't care. This is something completely simple, yet different from all other apps available. I'd pay a buck or two for it for sure.

I come from the blackberry pearl, it had two buttons, one on each side of the phone that you could assign to anything. So I assigned one to lock, so I could instantly lock my phone, pretty much how the HTC Incredible works except the button is on top. However, when I pressed any button on my blackberry it would wake up, then I would enter * (phone) to unlock and I'd be going. On my HTC I have to press the unlock button, slide the unlock slider, enter my pattern, then I can access my phone. I guess I can turn off the pattern but I like that security feature and I also like the additional protection it provides from pocket dialing.

It would be great to modify the lock screen so it contains more information, I looked at FlyScreen it looks busy and people commented that it didn't actually lock the screen.

I guess what I'd like is to skip the swipe down when I press unlock. Just popup with the pattern screen.

Loaded No Lock yesterday evening. At first it would unluck via volume rocker or trackpad. Later in the night, only the volume would unlock. After the OTA update today, nothing works on it whatsoever. Tried stopping and restarting the program to no avail. Uninstalling.

You do realize that the OTA had nothing to do with it? It's because the phone rebooted and NoLock does not work after a reboot. You have to keep the widget on a home screen, then hit it to disable unlocking again.

Bit of a pain, but it still works. (and by works, I mean it still kinda works sometimes).

Agreed. I'd buy that for a dollar!

I added myLock in my appbrain account butt when I sync my phone with it, it tells me there is no such app in the market? Is anyone seeing this issue?
Thanks

Lockbot seemed to work, however it did not get rid of the lock screen.

nolock works sometimes on the optical button, always works with the volume rocker AND gets rid of the lock screen so it almost works well for me. One annoyance I've noticed is that the first button press isnt ignored. So if I hit the volume rocker once to wake up, it also changes the ringer volume.

Since it seems to disable the lockscreen, does it have any effect on the phone's power saving?

This was my main first complaint. I've since grown somewhat used to it, but I use NoLock simply because I hate the lockscreen that shows no information. May check out Flyscreen. NoLock is a little stubborn, but giving the trackpad a long hard push sometimes is the key.

Either way, the power button to unlock the screen is a terrible design choice. First, it is a terrible human factors design, terrible ease of use, since it requires constant hand maneuvering or multiple hands.

Secondly, if HTC was trying to prevent accidental screen activations, the power button is MUCH more likely to be accidentally bumped. It sits on the end of a thin edge, and sits proud, so it can be bumped by many things. The trackpad, however, is a small button that is recessed from the surface, so it takes a small, rigid object like a finger in a deliberate motion to actuate it.

There should have been an option to use this. There should have been an option to choose the screen lock delay, or disable it together. These features have been on other phones. Phones people make fun of (*looks at Storm*). I hope HTC patches this, but its unlikely. Our main hope is a dev that can make a solid, bug free app.

This logic is absolutely sound. Why the power button and not the recessed, harder-to-accidentally-press, but easier-to-intentionally-press, optical joystick button? Horrible design. The same issue is present in the NexusOne -- so, does that mean this will not be addressed?

get no lock and stop the whining, please...works every time with either the optical button or the volume rocker..
end of problem

Who the F put you in charge? Since when is someone else's opinion on here not as valid as yours? If it doesn't do what he wants, then thats it, end of story. Either leave the thread, lurk, or attempt to help. Much like your mother says right before you head off to 7th grade home room, if you don't have anything constructive to add to the conversation, then STFU.

Getting really tired of these prepubescent turds who know everything.

That's what I was hoping for also. It's a practical guarantee that the volume will get pressed. I emailed the maker of No Lock and he felt there was no way to provide trackpad unlock only.
