nope not yet. believe me, you will know when it has been found. this place will blow up. so just keep checking here. im just as anxious as you are. my new gf just did the ota without telling me and she is mad that i cant root her phone.
yep you are correct. you are gonna have to wait. like i said before keep checking back here on this forum. you will know when an exploit is found.

A GUIDE'S girlfriend accepted the OTA without telling you??!! What's gonna happen first...2.3 can be rooted or "new gf" becomes "old gf"??

I'm in the same situation, took the OTA update to 2.3. Problem is I'm going out of town on Friday and wanted to get my EVO rooted so I could tether.
I just got mine from Best Buy on the 1st, anyone think they would let me swap it out for a new one with 2.1? Or does anyone think Unrevoked will be updated by then?

Another tether option is PDANet. Go to junefabrics.com and check it out. $15 or something like that for the full version. I used my Hero with that before rooting it and had no issues though it works best as a wired tether.

ok, so I was 50% done with the update and I saw this thread. I shut off my phone to stop the update.
If I update with unrevoked, will it screw up my phone? I don't need to tether any time soon. Will it just remove unrevoke, at which at a later time, I can reinstall? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I just didn't want to brick my phone. Thanks in advance.

so we need to know what state your phone is at right now. what is your current hboot? and do you have s-on or s-off?

I canceled the update. It seems to be back to where it was with no update. my unrevoke root was bare min. I only installed tether after rooting. I did not change my roms and anything else. basically, i just installed unrevoke and tether, didn't touch anything else.

so if you have s-off then do not accept the update. you can flash the gingerbread rooted ota. check the sticky there should be a link for it there.

Just did a WiFi update of Gigerbread... Totally forgot that my phone was unRevoked. Can anyone help:
I did it then there was an EXCLAMATION IN a YELLOW TRIANGLE with a little Green DROID dude just chillin there.
The phone was BRICKED!!! I practically shit my pants. Then I did a reboot like 4 times and somehow it worked.
NOW???? there is a System Upgrade 4.22.651.2 (109.21MB) notification that has a down arrow with a clockwise circle going around it...
What did I do?

In the mist of looking for a way to install the new OTA I might have found an answer to your question.
I found it in the rooting for dummies thread. See if this helps. Also, before you try, you should go that that rooting for dummies thread, I maybe copy and pasting out of context. Good Luck bro!

- reboot system now
- apply sdcard:update.zip
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- install zip from sdcard
- backup and restore
- mounts and storage
- advanced
- ++ go back ++

ok so
1. download this file Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!! it is the official ota but rooted
2.in recovery select mounts and storage and transfer the file over to your sd card
3.make a nandroid backup
4.wipe dalvik cache,cache, and system
5.find your file that you transfered and select install zip from sd card
6.reboot and your done!
now you should have the latest rooted ota on your phone. just so you know that the ota we got is not all that. there are some really great roms that just came out with sense 3.0. check the roms/kernel sticky.

My current situation is I wanted to go ahead and root for the first time S-On after I updated to 2.3.3.
I started the unrevoked procedure and got stuck when it said my firmware maybe was incorrect. I have the USB connectivity so it does respond to the root from unrevoked currently installed.
My understanding is that I need to wait until this comes out from unrevoked and go ahead and try their update after it is released and I probably will not have to redo the USB app(fix or patch or whatever you call it). Once this 2.3.3 root option for S-On users is released I should be able to just download it and run it on my PC once I have my phone USB connected like the other root from unrevoked.

yep you are correct. unfortunately there is no exploit found yet for the new hboot. you will have to wait. keep checking back here though, you will know when you can root again.
Guys sorry to interupt but I just rooted my evo with z4mod downloaded from my phone.Its the z4mod app.I tried different z4mods but this one worked.Been trying for days.Just did the ota 2.3 update and couldnt get root any where, followed your threads too.Ive had two weeks of hell,first my phone was rooted so when i tried to get the update from sprint i couldnt.Then got the ota and evo got white screen
locked for a day!!! Almost cried.Got it working again but lost everything,didnt back up( learn the hard way)Really cried!!!!!!!! Now Im happy.Just need to get the new 2.3.4 update. thanks guys. Ive learned alot from you.

just so you know z4 is only a temporary root. you will loose it as soon as you reboot. and it only allows rooted apps to work. you cant flash a rom as you do not have a custom recovery. on that note glad you have your phone up and running. but now you will have to wait to actually root your phone. their is currently no new exploit yet.

I am curious. Do you have s-off still if your phone was rooted before? I haven't heard of any rooting processes that work on the new hboot yet. What is your current hboot version?
thanks for the welcome!!!! I didnt use hboot.I downloaded it from ANDROID forums the z4root one. Senior member swc2001 posted it.Up to know i havent had any probs with my evo. One question please,remember im learning as i go.What is s-off ? Oh by the way I got the 2.3 from xda not ota like I had said before.I couldnt get it from sprint becouse i was rooted with z4.Im still not 100% satisfied that my update is correct.Like the keyboard looks like the old one,no spanish.When you turn off phone it should turn back on quickly according to some.Maybe its just me that i have rom nightmares !!!!!!!! thanks guys
