Root unrEVOked & Gingerbread?

s-off means that you have your security for your phone off. to check go to hboot on top corner in green it should say s-off or s-on. also to get to hboot you have to turn the fast boot option in applications off.

yep nothing yet. if the forums is quiet that means there is no answer to rooting yet. this place will explode when root is available again. you will know. plus we will sticky the root method as well.

I actually hate my phone because of this OTA. Sprint replaced my phone and it came with Gingerbread, please help I need to be able to root my phone.

So I rooted my Evo with Unrevoked a few months ago, but I cannot successfully update my HTC system software to 4.24.651.1. Will I be able to when the new version of Unrevoked is released or do I have to "un-root", install v4.24, then root again? Will Unrevoked work on the Evo with 4.24.651.1 system software?

Thanks

How did you try and update? If you are rooted, you can not accept the OTA. We have rooted stock roms that you can flash if you haven't tried that yet.

It was an OTA update. I have not tried the rooted stock roms. I am not familiar with them, can you clarify what the procedure is and what they would accomplish?

Thanks

If you are not familiar with flashing, I would start with reading the Rooting for Dummies guide. It explains alot and has alot of useful information in regards to our phones. You can go here and download the odex version. It is the stock rom but rooted so that root only apps can be used with it. Flashing this would get you updated to the latest OTA software be you would retain root.

Pretty much. Even if its not specifically using unrevoked, it would be something like that. But surely unrevoked would be updated with the newest root exploit (whatever it may be).

clockworkmod v2.6.0.1

- reboot system now
- apply sdcard:update.zip
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- install zip from sdcard
- backup and restore
- mounts and storage
- advanced
- ++ go back ++

This is what I get, what should I chose? and what should I have installed to get the gingerbread?
ok so
1. download this file Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!! it is the official ota but rooted
2.in recovery select mounts and storage and transfer the file over to your sd card
3.make a nandroid backup
4.wipe dalvik cache,cache, and system
5.find your file that you transferred and select install zip from sd card
6.reboot and your done!
now you should have the latest rooted ota on your phone. just so you know that the ota we got is not all that. there are some really great roms that just came out with sense 3.0. check the roms/kernel sticky.
What ever happened to micaevo, you say he has the official update and its rooted? Maybe he doesn't realize how important that is to the rest of the android community. Or was he just pulling our legs!

well from the looks of it he had a custom recovery still, so most likely the ota install did not work for him, fortunately. if had accepted the ota and it installed correctly then he would not have had access to recovery. he would have gotten the red triangle with and exclamation point. hopefully he flashed the the correct ota rooted rom.

please read the sticky, http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...cant-root-your-gingerbread-2-3-3-evo-yet.html for an exclamation on why gingerbread is not rootable yet.

Believe me, all I've been doing is reading about how its not rootable yet. I just was hoping we had got lucky. unrevoked said (on their facebook page) that they should be rolling out update with unlocked bootloaders starting in August. So i guess we're stuck till about september... :(

yeah i feel your frustration. i was there when froyo was pushed out and had to wait for that. hopefully the devs will find an exploit sooner then that. i mean the devs on teamwin were saying that they have said that the bootloader for the evo3d was like no other. and they were able to find am exploit within a few weeks or so. they have temp root and hopefully they should have full root very soon. so hopefully they can break this hboot and find an exploit soon.

Hi,
New to this forum.

Why doesnt someone just ask them straight up if they have someone working full time on the EVO or are they focusing all their time and resources on the EVO 3D. Because right now its all just speculation. The community needs some kind of official write up on the topic.

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nope they like to keep it under wraps. its just the devs being cautious. they do not want to alert htc that they are working on something. htc could silently push an ota that might lock down the bootloader evevn further. believe me i feel your frustration. i went through this when froyo was pushed.

Besides what Ocn said, most of these devs don't just work on things for our phones. Most are employed elsewhere or go to school and do this in their spare time. Some are working on the Evo 3D also but the Evo is long from being obsolete so there will still be support for it and those that work to get us our root back.

I get that. I just wanna know if someone is working on it. I don't really care about the ETA. I understand about them wanting to keep it under wraps but if they are gonna be releasing irc chat interviews regarding the 3d they should give an update on the evo as well.

From my understanding, the 3D has a more complex bootloader than the Evo does. I am not sure if that info is correct or not. Since the bootloaders are different, they likely have 2 different groups working on them. Apparently HTC is pushing out the tools to unlock the bootloaders on some of their phones in the next couple of months so they may wait for that also. Hopefully they will not wait and get us root again.
