Root Unrevoked question (validation error) please help

An UrgeTo Dance

The Hero of the Winds
Okay so I started rooting with unrevoked then it said validation error: backup CID is missing. Can someone please help me with this, it said root was a triumph but then came up with this.

Edit: I just booted into hboot and it says s-off but there is no superuser app in my apps list.

This has been a uncommon issue, and I have yet to find a solution for it unfortunately.

Anyone else have any better luck?

I'm not positive what is causing that either, BUT I've seen it a time or two, and it's pretty easy to get where you need to be. Verify the following:

1) S-OFF (you already did, so...that's good)
2) From hboot, select the recovery option. Do you have clockwork?
3) Boot up normally, and verify that you have the superuser app. If you don't, install it from the market.
4) Search for "terminal emulator" in the market, and download it. Open it, and type "su" without quotes, then enter. If the prompt changes from $ to #, you're good.

Let me know which of those things work and which don't. We can decide from there how to get everything where it should be.

Ok, go ahead and try to run unrevoked again. If it still gives you grief, and you still don't have clockwork after that, I'll give you the steps to just do everything else manually.

That works too. Did you verify that you have root in your rom (using the terminal emulator)? If so, you can flash whatever recovery you want from there using ROM manager.

Hey guys,
I am having the same problem... I was wondering if anyone has made any progress with this issue. I used unrevoked and everything appeared to work great until it gave me the message "validation error: backup CID is missing" If I run unrevoked again my phone gives me a force close for a program called zysploit. I have done several things to try to resolve the issue. Here is all the relevant information I can think of...

I did a factory reset and ran unrevoked again with the same results.
I downloaded rom manager, superuser and terminal emulator from the marketplace. the prompt in terminal emulator will not change from $ to #.
If I open rom manager it gives me a message that I need to root my phone.
If i try to go to recovery from hboot it gives me the phone with the red triangle screen.

hboot gives the following information

SUPERSONIC EVT2-3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-2.10.0001
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMELC03_16ac
RADIO-2.15.00.11.19

Any help y'all can give would be greatly appreciated.

No progress yet I haven't tried running unrevoked on my phone yet because I have been really busy lately and havent had the time. The only thing I have done so far is get a recovery on my phone by flashing it in a PC36IMG.

Does everything else on your phone still look like it is working?

You already did a factory reset? Is it safe to say you don't have anything you want to backup? Download the Clockwork 2.6.0.1 PC36IMG.zip from here:

http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/259446-clockwork-amon-ra-pc36img-files.html

I see you already have S-OFF, so you just need a custom recovery, then you can flash a ROM, and be on your merry way. Once you have downloaded CW 2.6.0.1, rename the file to PC36IMG.zip, exactly, being careful not to unzip it or anything. Boot into hboot, and it will prompt you to flash the file. Once that is done, try to get into recovery. Assuming you can get into CW 2.6.0.1, we can take it from there.

After I flash Clockwork, will I have to flash a new ROM? I am new to rooting and I was hoping to stick with the stock ROM for at least a little while. You know, start slow, kill the bloatware, try out the wireless tether and adfree android, maybe get SetCPU.

Yes - you can keep the stock rom. I'm rooted, and run wireless tether and adfree with the stock...I've never bothered trying any of the others...stock is fine with me.

That would be the easiest thing to do. You did a factory reset already, though, right? Is it safe to say you have nothing you want to save? You can flash a stock rooted ROM. There will be nothing custom about it other than maybe a few necessary root apps thrown in (like busybox). You will then be able to play around with whatever you want before flashing a custom ROM.

So even if my phone is not rooted but I have s-off and custom recovery I can flash a rooted rom and it will give me SU access because right now I don't have SU also if I try to flash a custom rom can I do a nandroid even though I don't have SU because I don't want to lose my wimax keys

Well, I downloaded CW 2.6.0.1 and put it in the root directory of my sd card named PC36IMG.zip but hboot was not able to find it. When it checks for files it still says "no image." any ideas?

Yes, s-off and a custom recovery is all you need. Just make sure you're using either RA or CW 2.6.0.1, and it will make a wimax.img for you. Once that's done, you can flash any rooted ROM that you like.

Are you sure you didn't unzip it or accidentally name it PC36IMG.zip.zip? That can happen a lot with windows since it hides extensions by default.

No... I didn't unzip it... I tried it several times naming it both PC36IMG and PC36IMG.zip just in case windows was hiding the file extension... In hboot the file above PC36IMG.zip (I think it is called PC36DIAG.nbh or something similar) said "no image or wrong image." I don't know if that is relevant or not...

What are the differences between clockwork and Amon ra? Should I try the latter instead? maybe it will have more luck...

PS I really appreciate your help and time. Thanks!

BTW, you won't be able to use SetCPU with the stock rom... Unless I missed it, I didn't see that point mentioned in this thread. It requires a Custom Rom.

Try downloading astro file manager and seeing if you can find the PC36IMG in there and make sure it is named the correct thing. They are both custom recoveries I just heard that Amon_RA is more stable but both work well.
