Unroot before send in?

I plan on calling Vzw tech support tomorrow about lag problems that I had with my phone before I rooted. If I call them and they send me a replacement should I unroot? Im overall disappointed with what HTC and Verizon have done with this phone and I shouldnt have to root it just to get it to be the phone I first bought.
 
I agree that a lot of people got screwed over with what HTC and Verizon limited this phone to do (compared to what it CAN do with root), but a Verizon tech won't see it that way if you have a ROM on that's obviously not stock. If you're running something that has sense, you might be alright, but I would flash eu1's flashback rom just to be safe:

It'll unroot your phone and remove Amon's recovery, so they shouldn't have any idea that you rooted in the first place unless they bring in a forensics team.
 
lol k thanks. Do I need to do this before or after I call? Last time I called they asked for build numbers and stuff but Im sure I can find that on google or something. :P When I go to flash the flashback rom do I just flash like I would any other rom?
 
UNROOT AND REFLASH BACK TO 2.1 BEFORE YOU TALK WITH VZW SUPPORT!

I forgot to do that and they voided my warranty! Said I had unauthorized software on my phone and that was causing my HARDWARE problems.

That's a bummer... First I've actually heard of someone getting nailed with this, although we've heard of folks getting asked for software version information from the settings menu. We've always known that they could tell if they checked carefully enough.

Did they just show you the door or give you the option to purchase a refurb or something?

That really sucks. My wife called VZW Customer Support this morning because she has the left-scrolling bug while plugged in. Thankfully he didn't ask for a build number prior to agreeing to send her a replacement. I will definitely flash it back before sending her original back though.
 
instead of starting a new thread i figured id add on to this one...i'm going to unroot before i try to call verizon for a replacement once i'm unrooted will i be able to restore my stuff with titanium or will i have to wait until i root again?
 
Titanium only works with root. I believe AppBrain works with unrooted phones. So you can at least easily get your programs back, but not their settings.
 
thats what i thought...when/if i root again i can install it and it can get everything back because titanium saves on to the sd correct ? thanks with a little luck ill only need it unrooted for a short time before receiving a replacement (wishful thinking)
 
While Titanium would be fine for after you re-root, it would be vastly easier just to make a Nandroid backup before you return the old phone, then restore that when you re-root the new phone. It's not drop-dead simple - under the /nandroid folder on the SD card is a folder which holds all of your backups that is named after the ID of your phone, and you'd have to change the name to match the new phone's ID after you get it - but, a few minutes of work (i.e., make a Nandroid backup after you re-root the old phone to create that new folder under the /Nandroid folder, and then move all of your old Nandroid files back to that folder), you'll have your new phone set up exactly as your old phone was.

download and save to your PC and then run it on the PC with the droid connected to the USB. Follow the instructions on screen.
Easy.
 
ok I don't really know much about how to do any of this stuff but I will tell you what I have done to my phone so far and hopefully someone can tell me step by step what to do in really simple terms.

I have v2 of 2.1 on my phone and it is the version that roots your phone too. I want to unroot my phone and make it stock again but I don't know if I am supposed to delete the file from my phone which had 2.1 v2 on it or if I just leave it on there.

I have the instructions from xda forums "Charge your phone's battery completely, put it on a charger, boot to Amon_RA, Wipe, and then flash the "FlashBack15_v1.zip" ROM." The things I don't understand are boot to Amon_RA, wipe, and then flash the ROM.

Can someone explain these instructions to me in very simple english to me?

There is no reason to leave your device rooted if you're returning it to Verizon; unrooting is an easy procedure and it's a sure way to avoid the worry of questions as to its eligibility for replacement.

Though I am not quite sure what you are talking about when you say, "I have v2 of 2.1 on my phone and it is the version that roots your phone too," you can do either delete it or keep it - the file itself is not what keeps your phone rooted. As far as I know, you will keep your SD card with the phone that Verizon replaces for you.

Hopefully charging completely and putting it on a charger is self-explanatory.

Boot to Amon_RA - this means that you turn off your phone and boot to Amon's recovery so that you can flash a new ROM - the Flashback1.5 ROM. You boot to Amon's Recovery by holding down the Vol Up key while you power up the phone until you see a screen with green text on a black background. That's Amon's Recovery.

Wipe - while within Amon's recovery, use the trackball to roll down the highlight to the "wipe" menu, then press the trackball to select that. From the screen that pops up, press the trackball on the Factory reset/data wipe option. When that it complete, press Vol Dn to go back up to the main menu. Before doing this, however, I would suggest going to the Nandroid backup menu item and running a nandroid backup of the phone, so that you can recover your phone to where it is now in case something messes up. After running the backup, go back to the main menu with Vol Dn and then do the wipe procedure.

flash the "FlashBack15_v1.zip" - Hopefully you have already copied this file to the root directory of your SD card (and, just to be clear, this is not a directory on your SD card called "root" - it is the top directory of your SD card; i.e., do not put this file into a folder on the SD Card.) Obviously, you should have done this before turning off your phone and starting in Amon's Recovery. Anyway, from Amon's main menu there is an option to flash a zip file from the SD card. Roll down to that menu option, press the trackball. That should bring you to another screen, from where you can roll down to select the "FlashBack15_v1.zip" file, press the trackball, wait for the phone to finish. When it does, it will return to the main menu, from where you can press the trackball on the restart phone menu item.
