Root Unroot For Warranty Replacement??

My incredible is rooted and running a leaked gingerbread ota flashed rom. I am getting a incredible 2 as a replacement due to not getting incoming texts. I had to read off the baseband version to the tech at Verizon before she said I would receive a replacement. The baseband is from the leaked ota, if I unroot it will change the baseband. Do I need to worry about leaving the baseband or do I unroot and let her fly? I do not want to be stuck paying full price for the incredible 2. I have to ship my old phone back by this Friday, so I would like to have this taken care of sooner than later. :D
 
what is your current baseband version?

Secondly, are you able to receive texts on other roms? There is a known issue with gingerbread and not receiving texts (there is also a fix for it).
 
The baseband version is 2.15.00.07.28. I had tried to load two other roms, both ota's off of xda and one wouldn't boot, the other wasn't as smooth and didn't play nice with my backup restorers.
The new phone is out for delivery to my house right now so fixing it is out of the question. I never had a chance to try to receive texts on the other rom that did load, I was preoccupied with trying to get my stuff back on it.

From there you can use the update.zip file to go to the 2.3 update (It's mentioned in the OTA thread stickied onto of the main page. Start at the last page and work forward till you see it, and just skim for links).

And if anyone else has the text problem after flashing an OTA based rom, please try and fix it yourself BEFORE bilking Verizon out of a replacement. I really am not trying to start a flame war, but this is technically fraud and is probably unecesary since it should be fixed by either flashing a different rom (including the official 2.2).
 
Aah! Thank you both! I'm relived to hear that it's a Froyo baseband and it will still be there after I unroot. Also thanks for the links.

I honestly tried everything I could find online and off the top of my head to fix this. I had very low expectations of what calling Verizon would yield. Thanks for the help.
 
I have looked, and am unable to find the sticky about the 2.3 update.zip ota. Would you mind posting a link so I can install 2.3, so long as the baseband version stays the same. Thanks

I'd avoid installing the update (2.3). The official update would change your baseband, which is what you are trying to avoid.

Ok, forget what I said about flashing the update. Anyways, as long as it's running S-ON on any form of official software, they won't care. There'll never know if it was rooted and won't bother checking if they could.
 
Same problem. Wtf do I do about this 'ATTENTION:
If you have updated to Gingerbread by way of the RUU or OTA, this procedure will NOT work for you. There was an update to hboot in 2.3.4 that will not allow a return to the stock 2.2 configuration. You will get a "main version is older" failure which is Verizon's way of saying don't try to hack your way backward to work around our patching of the current root exploit. Your option now is to wait and hope that a new root exploit is found.

If you were previously rooted at any time, check your hboot for an "s-off" designation at the top of the hboot screen (with phone off, hold volume down while pressing power button to get into hboot). If you have s-off, you can push clockwork either using adb or by using a PB31IMG on the SD card which contains the necessary CWM recovery files, both of which are outside the realm of this thread. Please pose questions in the root forum if this describes your situation and you need assistance."

So in your case, you fully accepted an OTA or ran the RUU right? So you have the new radio I'm assuming. Are you s-off or s-on?
 
This morning was the first opportunity I had to unroot my incredible and it worked like a charm. I did have to re-root it to unroot it because the s-on tool wouldn't take while running the PB31IMG. I ran unrevoked3, ran the unrevoked-forever-son tool, rebooted, had s-on, then ran PB31IMG from the link above, rebooted, checked About Phone, running 2.2 with the same baseband as before. Thanks for all your help!

Now I need to find how to root my incredible 2 : )
