Help Unroot problems

PKPC

Lurker
Hi there all

Firstly this is a brilliant forum and one I'd only found sooner before I tried fiddling with my phone.

Anyway, long story short, I rooted my Galaxy S4 not too long ago, mainly to get rid of the damn pre-installed apps and also to have a tinker with some of those apps you can't get on an unrooted device. After doing so, successfully as Odin told me, I went about deleting some of the Samsung apps.

However a few hours after, I noticed my phone getting slower, and sometimes badly. Like unlocking after putting the pattern would take 10 or so seconds etc. Simple things also like screen rotation was not turning on or off when I wanted it to, and it kept dropping wifi network intermittently. Then the worst thing, I got a pop-up saying "unfortunately, samsung hub has stopped." Now this pop-up would go away the first few times after hitting OK, but then it would keep popping up, I mean within a second of pressing OK. And this makes the phone un-useable. Now I would like to unroot my phone, and bring it back to stock software so that I can use it (iPhone convert and I now hate iOS) however I am having trouble finding any firmware for the UK, my model number is the GT-i9505. I thought I found the right firmware and when using Odin it keeps coming up with FAIL! and then the phone gets stuck into download mode. I have factory reset the thing twice after backing up however the pop-up keeps killing me.

If you guys have any tips at all please let me know as currently I am using an iPhone 5 and I think someone will get badly hurt when I throw it out of the window because I hate it so much.

Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums PKPC! :)

Thank you for your post.

There are currently 23 different models of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and over 1,000 different stock Samsung firmware versions, worldwide, covering 3 different Android platforms. Not all issues will affect all models or firmware releases and your answers to the following questions will help in the forum's answers to your specific query.

#1 Could you post your Model number and Android version...

To locate these, go to...

Settings > More > About device > Model number and Android version

This will give you the model of Samsung Galaxy S4 that you have and which Android version you are on.

#2. Your current Firmware, (not just Baseband), version .

To locate your current firmware version, go to the stock, Samsung, dial pad and type in...

*#1234#

This will give you your, "Version", details in full, usually 3 lines of information, AP: CP: CSC:, which may all be relevant.

*** If code *#1234# has been disabled on your firmware, you can download and install, free from the Play Store, Phone Info and it will give you, under Firmware Info... PDA, Baseband, CSC, versions.

#3. Also helpful would be your carrier, (service provider), location, (UK, India, Russia, USA, etc: ), and if your phone is rooted or not and running a custom ROM, (give details).

Thanks. The above helps us to help you and hopefully someone will be able to reply to you shortly. :)

Hey man, thanks for the response, here is all the requested information below

Model - GT-i9505
Android Version - 4.4.2

AP: I9505XXUFNB8
CP: I9505XXUFNB8
CSC: I9505BTUFNB3

It was a manufacture unlocked phone, therefore is not carrier locked and runs on non-carrier firmware, ie does not show up with any carrier logo upon startup. I am running it on the T-Mobile network. Finally I am based in London, UK.

Thanks

OK... so you have the latest, currently, firmware for the non carrier branded UK phone, CSC code BTU.

It would appear that you have removed, not frozen, some items that you shouldn't have... see Bloatware removal - Dummies Guide

I am assuming that you did not make a nandroid backup prior to your attempts at removing the, "bloatware", as per step #4 of the previous link. Otherwise, you could just restore that.

You will need to download the above mentioned firmware from SamMobile when they are back up and running, (currently down for maintenance), and flash the firmware using Odin and the instructions in the link #1.5 of 23 Galaxy S4 models - know yours?

Prior to flashing the stock firmware you will need to disable rooting in the settings of SuperSU and un-install any rooted apps.

Flashing the stock firmware will give you an unrooted phone on your correct firmware with all system apps restored.

If you want, you can then re-root your phone by following the Rooting Galaxy S4 - Dummies Guide.

Hello mate, thank you for the instructions. Seems fairly straightforward? I think I should have just listened to my soon in 2002 when he said "dad your too old for these new phones stick to your nokias."

Thanks again, much appreciated

Sorry to bug you, but does SamMobile have stock firmware for UK i9505's? IIRC I had a look previously and couldn't find anything, but that may just be me.

I ran into this same problem with Sprint's SPH-L720. It rendered my phone almost useless with the pop-ups. After some quick tapping back and forth I was able to get to Titanium Back Up and uninstall the 2 Samsung Hub apps.
