then
[ROOT] How to ROOT HTC Evo 2.3.5/4.67.651.3 - YouTube
sorry but i hate youtube videos for things like this. this guys talks to slow and seems unorganized. once you have gotten the hboot unlocked what did you do to get s-off? just trying to understand how you got to where you are at now. and about using the unroot method in the gingerbread edition guide, did you do step#1 with installing the hex edited hboot?
now i'm really confused cuz revolutionary will only work with hboot 2.16. if you have hboot 2.18 and on gingerbread 2.3.5 then revolutionary will not work. the only way to get to use revolutionary would have been to unlock the bootloader and then downgrade the misc partition so that you can downgrade your hboot and then you will be able to use revolutionary. if you did not do that then your hboot must have been 2.16 and on 2.3.3.
with hboot 2.18 htc locked the bootloader to make it more difficult to root the phone.
the other confusing part that i'm trying to understand is you have software 5.07 which is the latest ota software. not sure how you were able to get that. did you flash a 5.07 rom? there is no ruu for it.
The "invalid length" error usually means you extracted the file to a folder on the card called "flash_image", rather than extracting the file directly to the root of the card. Delete the flash_image folder, and extract only the file to the root of the sd card.thanks for moving it! and i typed the next line "cat /sdcard.." and i get the response
"cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image: invalide length"
