Root Unrooting

So, I see in the directions that if I perform an "unroot" and go back to stock, I will lose everything. Now, what does "lose everything" mean?
I can live with going back to a "brand new phone", will it wipe all the files on my SD card as well??

Question #2, Same Topic: Once I'm back to stock, I can delete the zip file off the SD card correct? There's no reason to keep it on there?
 
OK, another new question :/

I'm using these directions:

Here’s how it’s done:

Download the file PB31IMG.zip and put it on the root of your SD card
Shut down your phone
Press and hold volume down and the power button to boot into HBoot
The phone will find, load, and check the file you downloaded. It will then ask you if you would like to update using the file
Press volume up to update the phone
Reboot into your stock phone
Cry a little



Once I get in to the HBoot screen, I have a few options: 1. Fastboot, 2. Recovery, 3. Clear Storage, 4. Simlock Which do I use to "unroot" so it finds the zip file on the SD card?
 
if u have correctly put the file in the correct naming format it will find it on its own. i would verify u dont have *.zip.zip for the name or something of that nature. once uve gotten into recovery you should see it flash that it looks for several files, the last one which is PB31IMG.zip
 
chit. I know what happened. something happened to the SD card, and didn't find it upon boot. upon looking at the SD card through explorer, it says there are errors :/
 
k. i seem to be stuck.


Can I safely reformat the SDcard, effectively loosing everything on it...then reload that zip file? My fear is of loosing the nandroid backup and bricking this phone :(
 
Can you see the contents of the SD card at all? If so, copy the contents of the ClockworkMod folder onto your PC for safe keeping before you consider reformatting the card. Same goes for any other files, pics, etc you want to keep. That's if you can actually even access the card. Does it specify what errors?
 
This is the error I get:

"Do you want to scan and fix removable E:? There might be a problem with some files or folders on this disk". When I tell it to scan, it says it is in use and can't can.

Yes i can see the contents of the card, with both Explorer and with Astro
 
Are you using the phone as a disk drive or are you using a card reader? Do you have a card reader or a laptop with an SD slot?
 
USB debugging is enabled. I do not have an extra SD card.

In the HBoot screen, I see it goes to the zip file and has a few lines that it flashes quickly, and it goes away too quick to read. It might say something about "no image" or something? It's about 6 lines and a half a second....then it goes back to the HBoot four options.

I am able to open the SD card in Explorer and see the files there and in Astro. I've currently saved the Clockwork folder to my laptop, there is nothing else on the card I really care about.

Yeah when it says those 6 lines, it supposed to auto pick up that file and run it, did you make sure its not .zip.zip or anything, as thats happened to lots of people.
 
Yeah it sounds like the normal situation where no update zip is recognized. Something seems fishy, either perhaps a corrupt zip or the nomenclature of the filename is wrong.

The file needs to be called PB31IMG.zip on the SD card for it to be found, but you should also check the MD5 is correct before installing to

Yeah, you snuck in a response when I was typing. If there is no zip, it's not going to work. Needs the .zip extension to be recognized. At this point, if it were me, I'd remove it altogether and start from scratch on the placement of the file.
 
hhmmmm. so do i just rename it? is it possible the zip i downloaded isn't useful?? where do you guys download the correct one from?

The correct PB31IMG.zip is created from the RUU files.

The HTC_Droid_Incredible_Downgrade.zip that DiegoMejia provided should be right, It will take me ages to download it to check it, as on bad connection...

*edit*

25-35 mins to download, so i'm downloading it and checking it now
