Root UnRooting

Hi guys, I need to unroot. My evo is showing a lot of signs of wear now and has screen separation at the bottom and the white dots that seem to accompany the separation keep getting worse. The problem I'm facing is that it has been a LOOONG time since I rooted and I don't want to screw anything up. I'm planning on using the 2 step method from xda: here. But from reading that thread it seems that you need an older radio to run that file. I don't really like to screw with the radios that much, and have only updated them once or twice since I rooted. Does anybody have a pc36img that would allow me to use this method without downgrading my radio? If not, I know the radios are here but I don't really know which ones to pick. Can I flash any radio, or should I stick to a specific one? Do I also have to flash the WiMax, PRI and NV? If so which ones? Finally when I unroot do I need to flash a different rom or can I flash straight from the one I'm using?

Sorry for all the questions, like I said I rooted a long time ago and other than updating my rom and minor tweaks I haven't really done much else to my phone. I really don't want to screw it up since I've managed not to do so the entire time I've had it...lol. I know that the info about my phone is necessary to answer my questions so here it is:

Running Fresh Evo 4.2 (4.2.0.0) with the stock kernel that came with it. PRI 1.77_003, and PRL 60683.

When I rooted I originally used Unrevoked Forever. I then did the simple root method to get the eng hBoot.

HBOOT

Supersonic EVT2-2 ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-0.762000 (PC3610000)
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_16ab
RADIO-2.15.00.09.01
MAR 30, 2010, 11:24:04

and I'm using Amon RA version RA-evo-v1.8.0

Again, I know this is a lot, I really appreciate all the help I can get. :)

Try reading the root guide on top of the forum. Not the Gingerbread one the other. Hope it helps goodluck

Holy crap that hboot is old!
I believe you need the radio set that was associated with your current hboot version to run the ruu. I'm on my phone or I'd link the appropriate files. Give me a little while to look em up and I'll let you know where to find em. ;)

Thanks, between af and xda I have been doing a lot of reading for the past few days. I am pretty sure that I know what I am doing but am 1) not sure of the radio stuff and 2) trying to make sure what I am planning to do is correct. When I was rooting, I learned that it is much easier to ask questions before doing something instead of trying to fix something after.

Lol, I think the reason I originally wanted this version was because there were a few things that it could do, but that none of the newer versions could. As I understood the ruu had to be NEWER than the one you currently had, otherwise the system would reject it, but if thats not right then I'm glad I asked :o

Again, thanks for all the help!

Here are the radio's you need:

EVO_Radio_2.15.00.09.01.zip

Thanks! So, just to confirm....I need to flash this first, then the s-on tool and then run the ruu from that xda thread and that will bring me back to stock correct? Sorry I took so long to reply, I work midnights so I was sleeping. I'll be doing this tomorrow night and will let you guys know how it goes. :D

You got it!

Umm....getting ready to do it now, do I flash the radio in hboot or in recovery? I cannot remember.

edit: also to verify that I'm no longer rooted I just need to see the hboot says s-on correct? Is there anything else I should check?

Haha...ok, I'm done and appear to have lost root. s-on showing and no recovery. I'm gonna do the ota's and that should get me up to where I should be.

Just out of curiousity, would it hurt for me to download superuser, or some other root only program to see if they work? Just trying to think of other ways that I could make absolutely sure that I no longer have root.

Thanks for all the help guys. Hopefully I'll have a new phone in a few days and will be re-rooting :)

I'm pretty sure you're completely unrooted but if you'd like to dl a couple root only apps for reassurance sake, I don't see anything wrong with that.
