Root Update FA19 to FE16

I get speeds all over the place. The 1053kbps is the best I've seen since I got my prevail a year ago.

And it's back to about a consistent 150-200 again...
guess it is what it is, just seeing what is out there. everyone is doing this and that and really is no better off then me. i haven't done any tweaks or anything in about a month and phone works great and fast all the time. really happy with it and if can't make a mojor change, well then happy with the way it is.:D:D:D

these are before phone.tar, after phone.tar, and after proxy address changes. you can tell by the dates and times when changes were made. the ones from May were typical at any given time of any given day.

those did get better but not by much but still better which is good. now kevincott posted on the non rooted section of getting 2000+ for every test and i'm just wondering how?????????

I just thought of a possible reason why my 3g has suddenly slowed to a crawl. Does anyone know how to check to see if I've hit the 2.5 gig limit and am being throttled. I'm a JRE and Deathsquad podcast junkie.... :-)
I thought they were only going to throttle 4G down to a 3G speed after 2.5 Gig. and only to the phones that use their LTE 4G, not wimax 4G or 3G phones.. don't quote me on that , but the fine print says all about it .

RE: I don't think throttling will affect me in any way, or you for that matter, on the prevail..

I don't know what CM7 had in it but it was pretty good. I took it off my phone only cuz battery kept getting way hot and didn't last long when i was at home-in the boonies.
yeah IF he is getting 2000 it aint stock rom..I want the same mods he's using.

FE16 has caused my phone to freeze up on 4 occasions in the past 3 days. Its never done that before. Its a pain in the butt having to take off my case and backing to do a battery pull when i am out somewhere... inconvenient.

I'm inclined to think it's something other than just FE16 that is making your phone freeze up like that. I've been running it for the past 3 days as well without a hiccup. What rom are you running and did you clear your cache etc... when you installed it? There are quite a few things that could contribute to your phone freezing.

you should try holding power and up key but for a while battery pull is a last resort. sometimes have to hold for a while but i know you tried that.

Thank you for the clarification. I must be in a spot with sketchy 3g.

You only need to hold the power button (for approx 6-10 sec: and it will reboot. It works the same as a battery pull :)

And as far as 3g speed, some places have a device-to-tower ratio that simply will not allow transfer rates that high. when I'm downtown, i never see speeds anywhere near the 2000 you seek. But about ~10 miles out (at my house) i have seen as high as 2.3 mbps (~2300 kbps) transfer rate, via wireless tether app display, but not often. (And usually not between 11:00am & 6:00pm)
btw if your wifi only pulls 3000 kbps you need new router or service provider :D

I was using rooted stock, with SCVNGR, Layar, ThinkFree Office and the stock browser removed. Maxthon Browser installed as well as Winamp Pro and TuneIn Radio Pro installed.Once it froze while using WinAmp, once when just looking on Facebook, and once when I was just going thru my contacts. I had wiped 3X before installing (factory reset as well as Dalvik)

Ah, it's been quite some time since I've run on the stock rom and/or kernel so I wouldn't have any experience with that. I've heard this phone can be quite a piece of crap as stock, so I've run CTMod and Koumakernel for the most part ever since they've been out.

Did I mention this is a total battery worshipper?
Its lasting me a day + and not fully charges.
Everything is still stock though. It lags for sure.

Scvngr will make stock phones freeze up.
Removing the stock browser on a stock rom will make your phone mess up all kinds of ways. That's one of the worst things you can do really because most apparently are linked to the browser to run any form of online features.
Plus you named some major ram eaters there.
Keep an eye on your usage with task manager.
If your ram usage get over 160, the phone can freeze up or just act all kinds of stupid.

Yeah I don't know anything about Scvngr, but Facebook and Winamp both can be pretty laggy even on CTMod at times, so it's really not much of a surprise that it would not perform well at all on stock.

Any of you using changed PRLs? Or are you all using the original 61007 Boost one? I am curious as to how to improve my signal and data connections, now that FE16 is working on my phone.

Had PRLs switched from original 61007 to 11115, 6xxxx, 12121, 12123 with no appreciable improvements. I'm wondering if doing this switched also my proxy servers. pd.vog.sprintpcs.com and rtsp.vog.sprintpcs.com on right now.

FE16 seems to be a bit less laggy compared to FA19, though.

everyone has tried and is on different ones and some say works for them but all the variables make the difference, just sayin.

I have been on PRL 61008 for over a month. the last two weeks facebook has frozen upon me even on my laptop at the library. I wouldn't go as far as thinking it's this little jewel of a phone. maybe it has something lately to do with solar flares and satelites? But in the end FE16 does work a little better during calls, in data transfer, and better signal. I have found all apps still work as usual. I am looking forward to using Kouma Kernel when ext4 is on this FE16 update. As I am getting bored with stock limitations.

I am using fe16 but only the phone tar. and yes close to stock is ok. but i fiddle around a little with the stock stuff just for my phone. but i was wanting to try Kouma's Kernel with ext4 fs. and to have it deodexed would be even better. I cant do that, for i have no microcrap system. i had to use a buddies just to odin the phone tar.

I have a lot of time , and Kouma made a good half ass rom before, i will wait patiently.
