Root Update Failed

I had this same issue.
Tried deleting Bootstrap and related files and still failed.
I then flashed the modified .905 file from this link (the one that does not delete data) and it worked.

Okay, I'm up and running with the new update. Thank you for the above link. Bootstrap was the problem.

I guess the link is gone. But the info is in Paraflier's post above.

Those files are found in /system/bin
 
It fails for me too. I am rooted, have nothing frozen or missing, never installed safestrap.

No hijack file. I have logwrapper, but no logwrapper.bin and am puzzled.

I can confirm this works! I tried 3 time with a factory reset for the last 2 and no luck it failed 1/3 of the way through. Made the changes above and presto ICS for me and hopefully everyone else
 
I'm in exactly the same position as the OP. I'm rooted, no custom ROM, no bootstrap, have successfully downloaded the update 4 times, and get about a third of the way installing, then the phone reboots and I get update failed message. Had plenty of battery so that isn't the issue.
If I do a FDR I am assuming that I lose everything, including all apps, data and root? What about things that are on my micro SD card like photos and music?
Is there an easy way to root the OTA update
 
A FDR will wipe all your apps. But NOT what is on the phones internal storage or your external sd card. You have to specifically tell it to wipe those.
 
I read somewhere else that if you used forever root that might be the problem. I think that was what I used. Any thoughts from the group on what my next option is?
 
you can try and delete the forever root hack manually using root explorer. if you want it will write it up for you.
 
yea i know i got a notice that i exceeded my 250gb daily allowance so they suspended my account for 3 days.


open root explorer app and press mount r/w in the top right corner
with root explorer got to system/bin and open in text editor mount_ext3.sh by long pressing it and you will see at the bottom of the page
chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
chmod 4755 /system/xbin/su
chmod 4755 /system/app/Superuser.apk

one of them might have 475 (or something similar depending on how you forever rooted) it does not matter.

erase these 3 lines save and exit by hitting menu button. then reboot phone.

Thanks. Will this cause me to loose root?
 
Update failed for me (rooted, but still on stock). I'm doing a FDR to see if that works before trying anything else.

After it finishes the downloading phase and asks me to install now, the phone reboots to install and about a quarter of the way through the warning sign pops up over the Android's head and boots normally.

I couldn't bother to troubleshoot it last night, so now I'm downloading the zip for the Bionic ICS, and will force an update through the SD card. I did a FDR. Not exactly what I wanted to do, but oh well.

EDIT:
When .905 came out, I used Bootstrap to root, but stayed on stock. Should the FDR have removed those files?

This worked! Thanks very much for your assistance. Once I downloaded the OTA file again, it finally completely installed. Once it rebooted it got hung up at "android is updating your media." Well, it never did, but I didn't know this at the time and it was late so I just left it plugged into a charger and went to bed. This morning it was still "updating," so I did a battery pull and restarted the phone. It ran extremely slow and seems to not like a bunch of my apps (apps organizer among them). I may end up doing a data reset, but probably not today.
What must I do to re-root the phone?

since you already did a fdr and don't mind loosing data you could always flash the 6.7.246 fxz and it will put the phone to bare bone ics stock.

pm me and i will give you all the links to do it. I have to wait another day to post them publicly because my dropbox account was suspended for to much activity.
