update froyo 2.2 for orange htc desire

Were you sim locked? The only reason i'm not doing it is because I heard if you're sim locked it will brick the phone. Is this right?

My phone was Orange branded + bought from their customer services. I took the SIM card out before debranding and left it out until it was finished and there were no locking issues. Didn't have to buy an unlock code. Very easy process.

I have a black desire but am on 1.22.61.1, but have still had no update. I bought it late August so that may explain why it is 1.22.61.1?

I got mine when it was first released around July
so Orange prolly got updated phones from HTC later on.

I'm quite keen not to void my warranty so I'm hanging on for the update. I was wondering, though, is there a chance that the firmware will be upgraded as part of this update and make unbranding impossible using the current methods if I change my mind later on?

Unbelievable - Just got a reply from HTC today re the update.

It reads -

'Thank you for contacting HTC Europe. HTC is working hard with Orange to bring the Android 2.2 update to its Desire customers. The update is passing through final approval and we hope to push this out to customers very soon. I trust this resolves your query.'

Well no it doesn't really! So why are people downloading the update already then? Shocking from HTC!!

That's the stock reply they have given out in the past. Although it's true, it doesn't offer any more detail than 4 weeks ago :(

so the saga continues then, I dont understand why HTC didn't pass on that 1.2 update to us earlier.

anybody tried installing that update manually?

Wouldn't it have been the case that they passed it to Orange, who dithered about and decided it wasn't necessary, only to find out it was a required upgrade before going to Froyo, putting us into the situation we're in now?

Has anybody managed to update their handset today? I'm in Edinburgh with a black Orange branded Desire s/w 1.22.61.1 and still nothing. I'm not convinced anybody at all is currently getting the update.

What orange are saying is that to have any chance of getting the update you need to be on 1.22.61.1. Even if you have that update the actual froyo update is still launched in batches so be patient :P

This is why some of us can't upgrade yet including myself:

"If you are running software version number 1.15.61.10 then*HTC has recently advised us you will first need to update your devices to 1.22.61.1."

This upgrade will be soon.

From the Orange help section:
Software update for the HTC desire (Android 2.2) | help & support | Orange UK

(Note: I have the black desire, maybe all black ones had the older software)

I believe there was a minor update towards the end of June/July (can't quite remember the date), was it this? Everyone got it but only Orange passed on it, well thanks for that Orange, so much for being smart in not bothering with it in the first place.

As someone said, there is no date on the link, but I'll assume they are talking about this week, so will wait to get the 1.22 update early in the week and follow that up with froyo. I won't be holding my breath as his is Orange we're talking about. If they get the smallest of chances of crapping on their customers, be sure they will.

Hi,

Have just spoken to Orange who as usual are clueless. They told me that they knew nothing about the requirement of being on 1.22.6.10 before you could update.

I then decided that it would be a good idea to talk to HTC as it appears they are the ones that role out the releases. They say that both updates have been passed to orange and that it is them who release the update. HTC have nothing to do with it.

As usual it looks like it is Desire owner tennis between HTC and Orange help.

Just to make some people happier, my brother has 1.22.6.10 on his phone and got an update for 2.2 through earlier today. Unfortunately it says you should connect to WIFI to do it and he has not got WIFI connection where he was. He therefore had to cancel the update. Does anyone know if the update will reappear when he does a manual search???

The Update is definately targetting csome phones just not those woh got the phone early!!!!

Anybody Having problems with the wifi hotspot & tethering on orange branded phones after the 2.2 update?
Devices connect to the phone ok but can't obtain internet access.

If I had realised that we would have this debacle everytime an update is released, which, lets face it, is essential to devices like these, I would have gone with Apple.

Now I understand why the Apple product is so much more expensive and why they like to keep control of the soft and hardware.

I would not be to worried about Froyo apart that I need it to keep Apps on the SD card.

I hate to admit it as I think S Job is Mr Rip-off, but the recent experience has made me agree with you.

You're correct and I said the same when the Hero update was constantly delayed before I got the desire. The problem is Apple have 1 phone and the rest have new ones coming out every week it seems, so they try get you to buy the new one than offer an update.

But in this case it's Orange thats messing around, and if google won't do anything about it then Windows Phone 7 is just around the corner, and it's said to eliminate the middle men i.e. OEMs/Carriers, so will keep a close eye on it.

I've still yet to get the 1.22 update nevermind froyo, they said early next week, I assume it means this week, so fingers crossed it arrives today. Mon + Tue = early week, Wed= mid week, Thu +Fri = late week.
Orange deliver on atleast 1 promise!!!

Would somone please guide me to the update setting on my Desire so I can check if I can do an update (im getting old) be gentle with me!
Flinty

Press Menu-Settings-About Phone-System Software Updates-Check Now.

Good luck as I can't get it as I have an "old" Orange black one, and a phone:D

So HTC release an update we Desire users need before we can get Froyo and Orange don't release it? way to go Orange, A* performance in annoying your customers. It makes Vodaphone look great.

Not to mention the undated status update that says "early next week"... Seriously, would it have been so difficult to write "week beginning..." ?

regards,
/alan

I've written a batch script based around this: [tool] FOTA fetcher - xda-developers

It is checking HTC's servers every minute to see if the upgrade from 1.15.61.10 is available, and if it is it will email me.

The script works fine if I put in the 1.22.61.1 version and correctly finds the 2.2 update (in fact I have downloaded it to my PC just in case!).

So once an update from 1.15.61.10 to 1.22.61.1 is available I should know within a minute of it happening, and will post back here.

Note if you look at the script nothing in terms of serial numbers or dates or anything is sent to HTC - it just asks is a newer version than this one available, and the server replies with the location of the file if there is.
