Man, and I JUST updated to PRL 60669. I always seem to be one PRL update behind.

It's actually the "Preferred Roaming LIST"...(sorry Don).
It's a list of cell tower operators, frequencies, and preferred carriers that Sprint wants the phone to try and use for best performance (and other reasons) when you're roaming.
It changes as new towers are put up, old ones are taken down, spectrum is re-allocated by the FCC, network capacities are changed among the carriers, and new agreements are inked among the various operators.

Basically, it does nothing...I still get crappy Sprint service no matter where I go after these updates. I've just logged my 163rd dropped call since January - prior to Sprint had US Cellular for four years - zero dropped calls during that time anywhere- honest! I was in a bicycle accident two weeks ago and in the country - mind you only on the outskirts of of the city and a sprint tower two miles away - no service!
MY GF lives in England and we're constantly having to call each other back during a conversation because off all the dropped calls I have - and I'm in a suburb of a city.
Don't rely on Sprint for an emergency situation - after my contract is up I'm paying the extra cost for a better provider and service - cheaper costs isn't worth it when I'm bleeding and my life may be at stake.

Not to go off topic, but my wife and I have both had great service and coverage with the network Sprint offers everywhere we have been with our handsets. When you signed up for a Sprint plan did you check to see if the coverage area was good where you were going to be most of the time?
Sprint handsets can roam on the Verizon network, so I would think that having a lack of coverage would at least be reduced given that. I suppose it all depends on where you live and travel to though.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but those that use one carrier always thing the grass is greener on the other side, well it is not, each carrier have the issues in different location, I myself have had 4 different carriers and I always found an issue with each one of them in different locations, so as you might find one that works good in your location, and not good in another, I remember driving down alligator alley here in Florida, and we were 4 guys going to play golf in Naples, we each had different carriers, Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon, we all got different coverage in the 1 hour ride, the worst was T-Mobile barely had any coverage during the whole ride, the other 3 of us lost coverage 4 or 5 times during the ride.

Dear Sprint Hater....Has nothing to do with sprint. All Carriers have niches they fill. Sprint does tend to focus on Populated states....Sorry Wisconson, SD, etc.... That being said....South Florida NEVER dropped a call there - KC - Other than having to stand on my parents roof in the boonies....Great service....and thus far in Hawaii - Brilliant EVD service all over the Island - Never dropped to 1X or Dropped A call due to location.

I did check coverage map and this area is supposedly well served. I hardly think this area of Wisconsin is the boonies and IS very well populated. If Sprint can't cover the areas they say they cover and want to concentrate on 'heavily' populated areas, then they should pull out. I have friends with Verizon and US Cellular and no issues at all in this area or elsewhere. The grass was certainly greener with US Cellular when I had it.
The company I work for uses Sprint - my boss called me twice from St. Louis (hardly an unpopulated area) from two different locations - both calls were dropped. Apparently it's common for him also.
Obviously others are having better experience with Sprint than I have....good for you...I can only relate my experiences and it hasn't been good.

It's not just new towers....look at the full list of things I said can cause PRL's to change They are CONSTANTLY tweaking the best specific RF frequency (out in the fifth decimal place or whatever) and adjusting things based on which towers are having problems, new obstructions being built around certain towers, and changing agreements among the different carries on how to allow phones from their competitors to "roam" on their network (e.g., Sprint and Verizon might modify they agreement on how many Sprint phones to allow to roam on the Verizon network in a certain region based on how many new users they have in that area this month).

Now that my wife has an Evo, I can check on her phone
Running those AOSP roms, no way to update PRL unless you flash to a sense rom

Yeah. I will probably just check for a new PRL with my wife's Sprint Palm Pre.
Although switching ROMs is not a huge inconvenience. Oh well.

If you are on an AOSP rom, nandroiding, flashing a sense rom, updating prl, nandroid restore back to AOSP rom. The process should take about 20-30 min
