Root Update to 4.1.2

I have the LG Venice from Boostmobile, still with ICS 4.0.2 firmware, and Ive been System Firmware Upgrade checking for 7 days but keep getting "no Firmware upgrade" message?? WTF Thanks Boost??
Do you know any website I can find JB 4.1.2 so I can manually Upgrade my Venice? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My friend had the same issue, so I downloaded the .cab file of the JellyBean Firmware and flashed it via KDZ.
Added instructions under this post, check it out!

For those having issues with downloading the update through the phone, meaning it isn't working properly.

There's an alternative method for this, it's quite simple.

What you need:
- A Computer on Windows (Only tested OS)
- LG Venice (Obviously :P)
- USB Cable to connect to PC
- Ability to install programs on the PC

This method is pretty safe and used to unbrick some phones (Can also be used for upgrades), but just incase I'm in no way responsible for any damage to your Venice. Only you are, do this at your own risk.
I HAVE done this sucessfully on an LG Venice before, I also unbricked it on ICS, both times sucessful.
I've also used KDZ to unbrick the LG Lucid and downgrade it.

Download these files and extract the .zip file: Zippyshare.com - Files.zip
- I did NOT make any of these tools!

1. Install "LG VZW_United_WHQL_v2.7.1".
- These are drivers so the phone can be detected by the PC and flash JellyBean.
- Added Install "msxml" as well!

2. Get your phones IMEI/MEID by going on the dial pad and calling "*#06#" then get the number on your PC.
- More detailed instructions/methods: 6 Ways to Find the IMEI Number on a Mobile Phone - wikiHow

3. Open "Orignal LG Firmware" Enter "LG730" in "Model of phone" and your IMEI/MEID in the "Phone serial number" field.
- It says serial, but in the post I got this tool from it was edited and actually needs the IMEI/MEID number.

4. Choose a file save location and save the file. The firmware will be a .cab file.

5. Goto the KDZ folder and open "UpTestEX_mod2_marwin" (If you're on a netbook and the program doesn't fit on screen download altmove)

6. In "UpTestEX_mod2_marwin" Goto "Encrypt cab file to kdz file" and select the .cab file that just downloaded and hit the "encrypt cab -> kdz" button and wait for program to finish.
- File will show up on the top left side of the program under "test"

7. Connect your LG Venice to the PC in download mode.
- Download mode can be accessed by powering off the device. Connect it to the PC and boot it holding power up + down and the power button. It'll say download mode on screen.

8. Open "KDZ_FW_UPD" Set the phone mode to emergency and select the kdz file that UpTestModEX just made.

9. Click launch software update.
- THE PROGRAM WILL FREEZE UP! DO NOT REMOVE THE WIRE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE VENICE AND PC OR CLOSE KDZ! I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE IF ANYTHING SHOULD GO WRONG!
- The program will tell you when finished.

The following steps are optional, but recommended.

10. Disconnect the Venice from the PC and unmount the SD Card via settings.
- Then physically remove the SD card.

11. Power off the Venice fully.

12. Perform a HARD factory reset.
- This can be done by booting the phone holding the home key, volume down and power button. Follow on screen instructions to perform the hard factory reset.

Enjoy your LG Venice on JellyBean!

Followed instructions... ran into a small problem. had to make sure i uninstalled my other venice drivers before phone would successfully connect to the kdz updater.

thanks JJPR for the clever workaround.

perfect man i even still had all my apps but whatever was wrong its fine now thanks so much im enjoying jellybean to the fullest along with my nexus 7! :)

THIS is the process I followed to update my Venice (which was NOT ever rooted):

1. Charged my Venice to 100%

2. Verified that I had more than 400 MB of open internal memory (moving all of my music to the SD card gave me 1.7 GB of open memory).

3. Connected to a fast wi-fi router.

4. Clicked "Settings".

5. Clicked "Apps"

6. Clicked "All"

7. Clicked "Google Services Framework"

8. Clicked "Force Stop"

9. Clicked "Settings"

10. Clicked "System Updates"

11. Clicked "Update Firmware"

12. Clicked "Update LG Software"

The 362 mb download began and continued for about 15 minutes. Next I was asked if I wanted to install the update. I "clicked" update. During the update process, the Venice was restarted and then a notice said "Updated 23 apps". Then the Venice restarted again. I was asked if I wanted to update "Google Search". I clicked "update". That update installed "Google Now" and after the install I was given a quick overview of "Google Now" features . The LG firmware was updated from V.5 to V.8.

I don't see any significant differences in how my Venice works with Jelly Bean compared with Ice Cream Sandwich...it worked smoothly before the update and works smoothly after the update. Folks who decide to stay with ICS won't be missing much if they are happy with how their phone is currently working.

did u not look at your phone? there were major differences to alot of things and you get google now and LG QSlide

Spenceman,

My Venice was working well on Ice Cream Sandwich. I appreciate the work that Boost Mobile and LG put into upgrading the Venice to Jelly Bean. However, the differences seem minor to me. If someone is happy with how their Venice is working with ICS, the upgrade to JB will probably not overly impress them.

Some folks report that they had a problem the first time they attempting to download "Jelly Bean" with an "Over The Air" update, but after they turned off their phone, and and started over by doing a "Force Stop" of the "Google Services Framework" app, clicked on "System Update" and then things proceeded smoothly.

So, it may be worthwhile to try to "trigger" the OTA update by repeating the "phone off, phone on", "Force Stop" of "Google Services Framework", "System Update" process two or three times before moving to more difficult measures.

For a successful download, make sure to start with at least 400 mb of open internal memory and a 100% charge on the battery, along with a reliable high speed wifi connection.

Does anyone know how to remove/disable the dock that is now on my screen after updating to 4.1.2. I think it has something to do with google now and I have turned that off but there is still this dock like thing that I can not get off my screen.

Edit: I have just uninstalled Google search updates and restarted my phone and it is now gone. Just in case anyone else was bothered by it like myself.

It is sort of funny...we all were excited about getting the Jelly Bean update...but now we are trying to figure out how to get rid of the new features we don't like. I read a thread about the LG L9 where people wanted help figuring out how to get rid of Qslide.

A tech editor wrote a column recently were he said that phones have become GREAT at the stuff people actually care about, so new software and new phones must offer us lots of stuff we do NOT care in order to look like they are "new and improved".

the 4.1.2 upgrade is nice, the only "con" i have is that i have seen a lot more battery drain than with ics... gonna take some tweaking to shut down stuff that is now running that i don't need... overall tho, nice update... jm2cw....

woop i successfully got jelly bean rooted by using voodoo ota keeper. if you updated already you can always downgrade back to lg730zv5, re-root your phone, install voodoo ota keeper and then install the update.

Awesome, better than my method, doing this after I downgrade.

So I used this method and it has screwed up my phone. GAPPS are non-existent. If I try to do anything with the Home screen or Lock Screen and a few other options in settings it force closes settings. Any ideas on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated... Oh and I tried downloading the gapps zip and installing it through recovery mode to no luck.

I've used this on the LG Venice...so whatever happened to your phone shouldn't happen. It seems like a bug, did you try the hard factory reser right after flashing?

I did. I ended up downgrading last night, and doing it all over again and it is fine now. Was really irritating at first. When I first got it installed last night I couldn't even access the phone app. Could receive calls and could make them through another method, but the dialer was non-existent.

That's such a strange thing, I've reflashing the Venice twice with KDZ and NEVER got that issue. I've reflashed the LG Lucid 5 times with KDZ, again no issues.
