Update

Is this a new PDF?

http://support.verizonwireless.com/pdf/system_update/droid_bionic.pdf

My wife's Bionic is running a higher version that what is listed there, and her issues are NOT fixed. I hope that PDF is either old or is a misprint.

I am using 5.5.886 - the version on day of release

The document is referencing 5.5.893 and the link in the PDF is a dead page.

There has been no released update through the Over The Air (OTA) process.

There was a 5.7.893 leaked ... see ... http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-bionic/438060-bionic-reference-terms-links.html#post3398984 ... for more information.

Is the PDF a public document? What is the version on your wife's Bionic?

I downloaded it. I read it. What is the version that you are referring to?

Wife is running 5.7.893. She still has BSOD occasionally, but data connection does seem better.

5.5.893 has been out in the wild since October! How can this just now be released when there are several newer builds since then? When 5.5.893 leaked in October, it was not reviewed as anything special. If they had it almost 2 months ago, why did it take so long?

See updated previous message ... sorry.

If 5.5.893 was released it is news to me.

Is the PDF public?

Is the PDF real?

The link in the PDF is a dead page.

5.8.894 is currently in "soak test" and may be the OTA (or not).

5.5.893 was leaked back in October. It was dismissed rather quickly in favor of newer builds.

The PDF I linked is on the VZW Bionic support site. It opens for me and is being reported on Droid Life now also.

5.5.893, 5.6.893, and 5.7.893 were all leaked updates. There has been no official update from Motorola. At this point in time the latest leaked update is 5.8.894. Still no word on the official OTA.

The PDF file may have been created for use with the 5.5.893 update but it's possible that either VZW or Moto decided against it. The PDF may have never been removed. Someone just happened to stumble onto it and is making quick judgment on it. No one is being told to download the 5.5.893 udpate or is the link in the PDF working meaning that this PDF was never to be meant to be seen by the public eye.

It is possible that they scrapped this version because they heard reports that the update really didn't fix all the issues or VZW requested that Moto update the OTA to block root which is what they have been trying to do with the 894 udpates.

The PDF that I linked shows 5.5.893 as being an Official Update.

That PDF was never officially announced. Like I stated before the PDF was created prior to release 5.5.893 and then was probably scrapped before it being officially released. PDFs are usually released ahead of time and posted on the website so people have easier access to it by employees or customers. Someone probably wasn't told to remove that PDF which is why it's still on there. There is no official 5.5.893 only the leaked version many of us have applied. If there was in fact an OTA you would be able to use the update option on your phone to update your phone from 5.5.886 to 5.5.893. I am sure if you tried to update it will give you no update which means there is no official update. Ignore the PDF. I am sure if you called Verizon they would be clueless about that PDF and someone will most likely be sure that it gets taken down.

There is an error in that link. There should be an underscore between droid and bionic. Like this: droid_bionic.html Try that and see if you get what I'm getting. Can you open the link I posted above straight to the PDF?

DROID BIONIC by Motorola - Motorola Mobility, Inc. USA

Take a look at the following links. The first 2 phones were phones that had software updates. You will see that those have software updates considering they are older phones. The Bionic however does not show any software update meaning that there is no update available.

I have a quick question on my old phone if you were rooted it wouldn't let you do any updates. Is that the same thing for the Bionic? If your on stock but you are rooted will it update or will it just update and undo root?

The update should arrive soon. Just wondering what's going to happen to all of us who updated to 5.7.893.

That's the same PDF I looked at showcasing 5.5.893. Is this truly going to be the update? Cause it's kinda backwards to me...5.5.893 was leaked a while ago and currently moto has 5.8.894 on their servers. So if they do in fact release 5.5.893 are we expecting another update later down the road?

See ...

Software Update: DROID BIONIC by Motorola - COMING SOON!

... that has two PDF files.

There is no way to know what the version number will be when it is released.

Both PDFs show 5.5.893.

Well, maybe Moto combined all those updates and decided to name it 5.5.893. It's just a name to me. It might look backwards to us because we kept updating to the leaked versions...haha.
All I know is that I'm happy with my Bionic even with the leaked update. :p

You are correct. What we have and what they have number wise could be the same or different. I guess we will find out once the OTA is released. We'll have to compare the kernel and radios once the OTA is out and see if it's the same thing.

Suggest we take a deep breath.

It is a page on their website that is pretty well hidden (i.e., public by mistake maybe on purpose).

This hidden page says COMING SOON ... i.e. it is not yet here.

When it is released it will have a build number.

It may be the build number in this "unreleased?" page.

It is going to be very interesting to see if Verizon protects all the people who installed the leaked versions or if they are going to "stick it to them".

My guess is "protect" because of the benifits Verizon got from all the unoffical testing. All they had to do was leak the software and read the test results.

If you go back to my first post in this thread, #5, I asked if this was a new PDF, as I wasn't sure. The PDF's typically appear prior to an update being actually available. The first 4 numbers in the code at the bottom are 1211. Does this translate to Dec 2011? I believe when the last update was released for the Thunderbolt, the PDF said 1011 at the bottom and if I remember correctly it was released in October.

If the Official update is something other than 5.5.893, it will be odd that it hasn't leaked ahead of release.
