Root Update

More than likely. It's the radio that causes the error. Can't say what the various libs and whatnot do, though

I should be able to just rename the file in the op to "PG86IMG.zip", then load my bootloader on an unrooted stock evo and flash right?

If you're stock unrooted and S-On, my guess is no, sadly. I assume you checked to see if there was an OTA? If there's not...Try to S-Off. I finally did it, so anyone else can ;)

How can we apply the new update, I thought they aren't pushing it anymore?
You can download the OTA update zip file from the official HTC OTA site or the link in the OP of this thread. If you are S-OFF the procedure in this post for the HTC Sensation should work after flashing the RUU.exe. Make sure to do a nandroid backup of your current configuration before trying it.

This method for the HTC One S might work if you are S-ON and rooted, but you will probably need to flash the stock recovery and relock your bootloader before booting into recovery to apply it. I can't test it since I have an Evo 3D that is already S-OFF.

Hello everyone, I have been on XDA for awhile, but just switched to Virgin Mobile. I know that I am a bit late to the game, but if there is anyone else who needs to flash this, here is a zip (flash from recovery) of the patches only that will allow you to retain root, and proper permissions for bash (no need to flash the su patch).

Edit: Though root was retained, there were a few small issues. Zip retracted.

Got it going from a stock rom, rooted with S-ON (all I need is tether every 2-3 weeks, and I like Sense).

Basically install the two files listed earlier in the thread as zips from recovery:

http://db.tt/nfAkDtL0 = Firmware

http://db.tt/YoK6kFTo = System files

Than had to reflash recovery with fastboot (using twr).

Next install the superuser file from this thread:

http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip

And then reboot and reset whatever SU permissions you may need.

That was it. It came up with a customization warning on first boot, but then loaded up fine and has not come back.

Confirmed with the posts above that the numbers match for the update.

Thanks for all the info guys.

Hi!

I really like my Evo V 4G out of the box. For the first time I have a phone that I have been too lazy to use a custom ROM. But I do use the phone as a hotspot connection ("Wifi Tether for Root Users") so I am rooted/TWRP'd. Otherwise stock.

I would like to use the new radios any other goodness from the update with the least effort possible. Yes, lazy.

1. Will this do that?
2. Will it lose anything installed on the phone? Do I need to back everything up?

3. Is there a better way to do what I want? (stock phone except able to use the phone as a wifi hotspot, new radios, little work interruption to what I am already doing ieth the phone.)

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Yes you have to be s-offed to flash the update. The sticky thread for s-offing will work fine with stock rooted. Good luck dude! :D

If you are S-on you can't flash anything from the bootloader unless its signed with HTC's secret keys. That restricts you to an update file direct from HTC.

If you S-off, you can flash anything from the bootloader if its in a PG86IMG.zip format. :)

I went to the unlimited.io IRC last night, and the guy there told me I can't s-off on stock rooted. He said to relock bootloader and flash stock RUU. Did you do yours while stock rooted?

Yes I did, however if you want or need hand holding from Unlimited I would definitely recommend that you follow their directions explicitly. That being said, there is a very well defined and knowledgeable user base right here to help you out. Good luck and let us know how you make out. :D

You CAN do it on stock rooted, they just don't SUPPORT it ;)

I used Harmonia. It worked fine for me. (Though I put it off for a LONG time. Right OB?)

I gotcha. Hmm, in this case it would probably be easier to just s-off then and flash the update, but I might go back to original RUU and do everything again, even if just for a learning experience. Do you need to be on Harmonia to s-off while rooted, or was that just what you happened to be on, Prinny?

You're supposed to be on the stock RUU but you should be able to get away with flashing any stock rom. You could also flash the JMZ stock if you are wanting to avoid the RUU.

JMZs is rooted though so I couldn't take the OTA and keep the patches. The RUU linked here is a pg86IMG file, not exe so I can just put it on my SD and flash it in bootloader, right?

I think we are getting a little mixed up here...

I mean as far as getting s-off, you should be fine using jmz stock or harmonia.. It's a little pointless though since you are going to RUU anyway.

They suggest being on the RUU... So Run the RUU, take the update. And then unlock, flash recovery, and rather than flash a stock rom, just flash superSU.

You will already be stock so you can just root it... Flashing superSU will just root the stock that you are already on. Same thing as flashing a rooted stock rom... It's easier and quicker to flash superSU than flash a whole rom that just has superuser added.

So, after you've gotten the update, you will unlock, flash recovery, flash superSU. Then you will be all set and ready for s-off.

And yes you can use that PG86IMG.zip for the RUU!

Oh yeah, I was just curious about being on rooted stock or Harmonia for s-off. But now I feel more confident about what to do next, and all of the steps. You and other here have cleared up a lot of my questions, and I do appreciate that a lot!

My phone is currently stuck in bootloader. I relocked, that seemed fine. But when I run the RUU.exe from here, it stops in middle and says:

"Error [140]: Bootloader version error. The ROM utility update cannot update your Android phone. Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again."

So I'm stuck in bootloader, not sure what to do next?

Edit: I also tried this step, which didn't either work:

If RUU.exe does not work for you, you can manually extract the RUU.zip from the RUU.exe.

1) Go to Start > Run > type "%temp%" and push enter, this is your temp directory. I recommend you clear out as much as you can.

2) Run RUU.exe with this folder open. You'll see a few new directories, in one of them, there is a file called rom.zip. Copy that file to your SD card and rename it to "PG86IMG.zip".

3) Reboot your phone into bootloader mode. This file should flash.

Thinking maybe something happened to the files on my SD card. Luckily, I copied the SD card contents into a folder on my PC. Trying to restore that and try running it again to see what happens.

I think you need to flash the sstmainversionlow.zip

I can't seem to find it.. I know ramjet73 has it and I looked for his post but can't find it.

Basically no ruu exists for the most recent ota. So if you've taken it, and you're s-on you can't run the Ruu because it's an older version. So the zip changes that and allows you to run the Ruu. Usually I can find the post and I thought I downloaded it just in case but i cant find it anywhere. It's out there somewhere. Just hold tight and we'll get it to you.
