Upgrade 1.5 to more recent ?

Hi,

I have an older Hero and would like to upgrade to a newer Android version. It's never been upgraded before. For what they're worth, the specs now are Android 1.5, kernel 2.6.27[+something], build 1.76.405.6[+something], SW 1.0.0.A6288 .

As far as I know, it's not branded to my telephone company. Any chance of getting 2.2 or 2.1 to run on it (and Angry birds for my kids ;) ? Can't seem to find any relevant upgrade howto's, only for Orange branded phones...

Build 1.76.405.6 is a generic Hero ROM, so you should be able to install the most recent 1.5 update from here without issues. Once this is in place you should receive notification that an Over-The-Air update to 2.1 is available. This will update your handset to the latest official firmware.
 
But unfortunately on 2.1, or even if you rooted and put 2.2 on, heroes are too slow to play angry birds.

I did hear about them making a version for underpowered phones, but I don't know how true that was.
 
i got angry birds working 100% on mine , i had real lag issues on 1st install but uninstalled and reinstalled and is now working perfect
 
yeah 1st of all i could catapult then it would basically come to a stand still . then i uninstalled and reinstalled and now its working real smooth and not had 1 issue since .....
well with all my luck in trying to sort my phone out in the 1st place with the ROM something had to go right for me in the end lol even if it is a game lol
