Ignoring the iphone part of things.

Can someone explain this to me?

Verizon Killing Upgrade Discount Program Just In Time For iPhone 4

Until January 16, every customer of Verizon Wireless (and the primary line of a family plan) with a two year contract is eligible to upgrade to a new phone at subsidized prices (i.e., the price that they always advertise) 20 months into their 24 month contract with an additional $50 rebate. They called this program "new every two". Apparently, customers were also eligible to upgrade at subsidized prices (and sign a new contract) 13 months into a 2 year contract. Though I never saw this policy advertised myself, there have been several posts here and elsewhere that seem to indicate that this is true.

The "new every 2" rebate is going away as of January 16th for all new contracts, and, starting then, existing customer may upgrade at subsidized prices 20 months into a 24 month contract, not at 13 months.

Note that this is only for contracts started after January 16. Anybody with a contract right now will still get one more new every 2 rebate at 20 months.

So im my case a family share plan with two lines. Each line will upgrade one more time with the discount then after that I have to pay full price for a phone? so in 3 years when i want to upgrade i have to pay 300 400 500 dollars for a phone?

Yes, I can confirm this...did it a couple of times for phones for my kids.

Actually, I think VZW has been pretty flexible with all of the different things they do. They may not always advertise these things or always offer them to everyone (I've never gotten any special offers or freebies that were not general available).

Cheers!

No. The primary line will get the "new every 2" rebate in addition to the advertised, subsidized price; the other line will be eligible for the advertised, subsidized price after 13 months of the two year contract but will not get a NE2 - it never has been able to get that. That is the current policy - the secondary lines on a family plan never get the new every two rebate.

The advertised, subsidized price is the price that you would pay to get a phone with a new, two year contract - so, $99.99 for a Droid Incredible. If you try to upgrade before 13 months, you pay full retail price for the phone, or $529.99 for an Incredible - though you get to keep your contract as is.

Not quite. After 20 months of your two year contract, you are eligible to get the phone at the advertised price (as well as a new two year contract.) What you will no longer get is an additional $100 rebate. (I think NE2 is $100 - I said $50 before, but I think it's actually $100.) When I bought my Eris last year, I got it with my NE2, so I actually netted getting paid $1 to buy the phone, rather than pay $99 out of pocket.
