Upgrading to 2.1 Tutorial

could someone point me in the direction of the latest 2.1 ver leak? I update a week or so ago from the instructions here, but have the .2 version instead of the .4
Thanks

What do you mean, .2 instead of .4? Baseband, Kernel, Build, ect? Which are you looking at?

It's the build or software number. On the first leak, it's 2.26.605.2, and on the later leak it's 2.26.605.4.

Ok, so I see that mine is the .2. I downloaded the 2 leak from the mediafire link and see it is the same size and file name as what I previously downloaded and installed, I don't think that should be so if it is the .4 and I have the .2????

Any advice from anyone?

Edit: I went ahead and installed this newer version, it is the .4. I am reinstalling my apps via Astro.

If you got the leaked update for droid eris can you still get the OTA update when it hits???
And how do you install the version 2 if you have the version 1 leak of 2.1

Did the update. Went well. My minor question now is, since I can't figure out how to do it, how do I put internet/online pages on my home page? Like, how do I put the link to NOAA to my home page? It was easy in 1.5, but havent' figured out the combination on 2.1. Thanks.

My update went peachy, I do like some of the new features, phone feels a little speedier (could just be due to a fresh OS load too?).

Love, love G-Navigation and the way google voice integrates with the phone better now.

Overall definitely worth the upgrade!! DO IT PEOPLE :D

No problems so far, battery life is "shorter" but just because I'm using it constantly now :)

Emunny I believe it was said earlier in the thread that you will still be able to get the update when it comes out.

Can someone please varify this for me I remember seeing it but cannot find it now.

If it the OTA update doesn't work, we should be able to just download the finished version of 2.1 online (like we did with the leak) and load it onto our phones.

What's the difference between the old leak and the new leak? Are some of the bugs gone? What are the bugs in the current leak?

there are a bunch gone. main one I know of is the embedded browser in some applications doesn't work. others still complain of random battery draining. oh and wifi doesn't auto connect to remembered locations when you turn it on until you open up the connections window. plenty more to check in the 2.1 leak bugs thread

Thanks for taking the time to write this, and thanks to anyone and everyone who contributed info. It was so easy I was beginning to think that I did something wrong! :)

Huh, after ruining 2.1 for a week I realized I accidently put the old leak on. Will reload newest version on hope it will feel like a up date :)

Hey guys,

I have tried to do this, but maybe doing it wrong. Do I download the zip file to my phone or my computer?

I have downloaded it to my computer a few times but it always says it can not recognize the file.

Thanks!

I'm downloading right now directly from the browser on my phone. Anyone tried this and had any issues? I didn't really find any feedback on that. I should be able to do the file type edit from Astro, correct?

I'm still hesitant to pull the trigger... not sure why. One thing that really makes me want to do it is to try Helix. And of course be able to show it off. AGAIN!

EDIT: Nevermind, I see that I won't need to edit the file type. But still, should it make a difference that I downloaded from the phone's browser?

Lots of us did it that way. It's the easiest way to do it.

this was very helpful and worked great. I was really nervous about "erasing everything" and doing the "factory reset" but everything important remained (business, contacts, etc) and the backup of apps was easy.

However, if you use apps that have info saved, make sure you write it down. I lost the songs I had tagged with Shazam and the notes I had in my notepad. Not the end of the world, but I wish I had looked at them before resetting.

Otherwise, just fiddling with the settings and everything is great! Love the 2.1b :) THANKS!
