Upgrading to 2.1 Tutorial

I had it sitting with the 3 droid boarders for about 20 mins. It couldn't take that long can it? Oh and while doing this the phone was unmounted.

So are you saying that you never got any kind of a status bar on the right hand side? If that's the case either backup all info on your SD card to your PC and put only the Zip file on it or use another SD card. I have read where users had to do this when running into the same symptoms you're having.

hey im new to the android phones, i just got an eris and found this forum i was wanting to do this update to the 2.1 and i dont have a mini sd card slot. i saw that there is a way to do this update via USB correct?

If correct i saw that matlock had said to make sure everything is on the first level? can someone let me know what that means? maybe just a little brief how to on this update via USB. Thanks to anyone who contributes. Things like do i need to keep my phone on when i am in the process of transferring files and what not

You're phone came with an SD card already, it's behind the battery cover on the right. Connect your phone to your pc and on the phone tell it to mount the SD card to your PC you will see the drive letter assigned on your pc; that is the top level of your sd card. Put the zip file there and then follow the rest of the instructions.

hey i have the old leaked 2.1 and i want to upgrade to the new 2.1 (is it possible to do)? also is there a way of going back from the new 2.1 to the old 2.1?

Thank you for this tutorial. I have been lurking on this forum since I got my Eris on release day, patiently awaiting the mythical update, and finally got the guts to just plow ahead and install the leak myself last night. So far, I am very pleased that I did, and had no problems at all with the process.

Yes it's the same process to update to the 2nd leak just make sure you delete the .zip from your SD card from the first leak. You can't go backwards and you don't want to. All bugs from the second leak exist in the first leak and the second leak fixes some bugs from the first leak.

Edit: Some have stated that they were able to go back to v1.

so i go into "my computer" place the file directly into "removable disk F:"

do i do this and keep the phone on or can i turn the phone off after i mount the SD card?

EDIT: i placed the file directly into removable disk F then unmounted, powered off my phone then did the volume down and the power off button. it didnt do anything at all from there. that did i do wrong. it says HBOOT then under it says all the controls then it gives me the option of fastboot; recovery; clear storage; and simlock. i even deleted the file and put it on the SD card again via USB

It keeps saying no image or wrong image. i downloaded the patched version, made sure it was on the lowest level in the SD card, made sure it completely downloaded and everything.

Assuming it's correctly named "PB00IMG.ZIP" (pee-bee-zero-zero-eye-em-gee dot zip), the phone should list a few other file names and tell you "no image or wrong image" and then finally arrive at PB00IMG.ZIP and pause for a long time with a status bar gaining height in the upper right corner of the screen. If it's saying "no image or wrong image" after it lists PB00IMG.ZIP, then the file might be corrupt and need to be downloaded, or perhaps it's named PB00IMG.ZIP.ZIP instead of PB00IMG.ZIP (because Windows hides known extensions by default). Hope this helps!

Just wanted to say I finally did this, followed the instructions, and it works beautifully. So much faster and the navigation makes it worth it alone. There are a couple little buggy things but overall I'm so happy, so thank you!

so this seems a bit complicated for me I was just wondering what is so much better about 2.1 that makes it worth the risk of accidentally ruining my phone if i mess up

So I load the PBOOIMG to the root of my sd card and then I power off the phone and let it sit a minute. I then power it on with the send button and the power button and it takes me to this.

Yep that is correct, no status bar on the right hand side. I just formated my sd card and only put the the zip file on it. Turned the phone off, pressed the down volume and turn on key and still no go. I am stomped. Any other suggestions. Grrrrr!

When you get to that point where it says it's reading PB00IMG.ZIP, have you tried pushing the trackball button?

Thanks everyone for all the help! Now that I have a 2.1 eris i am very very pleased with the outcome. My keyboard would only work when i turned the phone in landscape position, simply restarted my phone and it worked just fine after that. this is an awesome firmware!!
