This won't work the way you expect it to.
Could you elaborate?

I renamed the file, but after it is recognized by the system during the update it doesn't find the necessary HBOOT file. My theory is that, if anything, adding the HBOOT file from the other update might get it to start but there is no telling if anything else is missing.
Yes, the key won't match anymore if one adds (or modifies) a file.If you add HBOOT to it, won't the entire package have to be resigned?
I checked both .zip files, and they are completely different. I'm trying to figure out a way for the phone to recognize the update once it's on the SD card as a system update while the phone is on.
A previous post here, or on XDA, stated that even if we have this file, we won't be able to use to upgrade unless we have ROOT. The file needs to go into the /cache folder, which we don't have access to.

I was afraid of this. I figured it downloads it to internal storage and that's where the phone looks for updates.
But what is with the modified date of September 2008?
I think I got it installed. Give me a couple minutes to try things out and write up a tutorial if it worked.

Haha, what does that even mean? You THINK you got it installed? How could you not know?![]()
lol.. it was still booting and wanted to make completely sure it was working..
anyways, it works!
I took lots of pictures along the way... i'll start a new thread.
btw, i'm coming from 1.5.
Like really dumb dummies.
Looking at the URL and thought some of the numbers looked rather familiar. Now, I know that there is a lot of talk/rumor that the v3 leak (which I currently run) would be the OTA.
Here are the software versions on the last two leaks:
Software number: 2.26.605.4 (Leak 2)
Software number: 2.36.605.1 (Leak 3)
URL:
...desirec/OTA_Desire_C_Verizon_WWE_2.36.605.1_1.17.605.1_rel ease_0420.79112f65...
Now, I am no software guy, by I do know when numbers match. That being said, my guess is that the OTA is a modified version of the v3 which wouldn't require a complete wipe of the phone (like the leak did).
