Root USB Device Not Recognized

Okay guys I need your help... the past few days has been hell for me with technology. Now my phone is being a brat to top it all off. I plug my phone in and I get a pop up window that says "USB Device Not Recognized" and in it says "One of the USB devices attatched to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it". and its coming up as "Unknown Device". This happened right after I updated to CTMod 3.5. anybody have any ideas? please help

thy this method. i had ther same issue with my old samsung fascinate, and it took me two days to find a solution.

"Run "regedit" and select the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/MountedDevices" folder. See all the "Dos Devices" listed? You'll have one entry for each physically mounted drive (HDD or Disc) plus you'll have one show up for each USB drive you attempt to insert. Double click each device listed and see if you see text saying something like "U.S.B.S.T.O.R...". Once you find that device, right click it and select "Rename". Now change the drive letter to something unused... like Q: or something. Close regedit, disconnect the USB device and reconnect again.

If all went well, you should be able to see your new drive when you plug it in.
Good luck!

apparently my drivers arnt to date... but I cant pay for a key. I need to find a way around that and get my stuff up to date

Where are you getting your drivers from? The ones in the Odin packages should work fine, and I just now downloaded them to make sure the drivers are still in there.

What do you need a key for? What is asking your for it? Everything on this forum is free. If something is asking you to pay for updated drivers, there's something screwy going on.

I wish I knew what was wrong with this... if I had the money to go get a new one id send this damn thing to space.

it was some norton thing... those greedy bastards lol...

The only reason Norton exists is because they get manufacturers to preinstall their crap on the computers. I seriously suggest finding another AV , like Avast.

Anyway, have you tried to download an Odin package and use the driver installer from it? If you tell us what you are doing, instead of repeatedly telling us how annoyed you are, maybe someone can help you ;)

I still have the driver installer, if you can't get Odin to download, I can send it to you via e-mail.

You. Would think that restoring your computer to an earlier date and then wiping your phone and starting from scratch would fix it.

Laughs.... anyway yes I tried the driver from Odin ( countless times ) and yes I cant stand Norton either... ive been using avast for over a year now :)

It just keeps saying it malfunctioned. Im going to set my computer back about a week or so and hopefully that will work... for now

Be forewarned, system restore pisses off Avast, you may need to reinstall it. I had an issue once, had to system restore, then boot into safe mode and run the uninstaller listed in the link below. Make sure you have your license file safely backed up if you use the paid version.

Avast uninstall utility

Also, Norton is bad about doing half-assed uninstallers that don't work well, you usually need to use their special utility to remove all the gremlins.

Norton Uninstall Utility

Maybe, if Norton is annoying you about updating your drivers, it's the one breaking them in the first place. If you don't have the full version, get rid of it completely

hahaha exactly... I remember it took like two hours on the one update install 0.0 and then the next day it had another that took about 30 minutes -.-
