Help USB port door removal?

So has anyone become annoyed enough with the USB port cover to rip it out? If so, does it look bad? Does it look like you could reattach it, or do you need to actually rip the rubber to get it out? I've been thinking about tearing mine off, as I think it's pointless and slightly annoying.
 
I thought about removing mine but I later thought it might be good to keep pocket lint out of the connector.
 
some phones don't have. Reviewers bashed this feature. My thoughts...hey, at least samsung included them. You can always rip them off if you don't like them. I deal with them because they help prevent issues later.

I ripped mine off within 2 days. I purchased my phone as soon as they were released so its been off for over a month. I don't regret the move at all.
 
did it have to be ripped off? or does it come off and can possibly go back on?

and agent0014 would like to know this as well.
 
Seems like a minor inconvenience to me, I'm glad its there. My old phone (Sanyo Katana DLX) had port covers, but they would stretch when you bent them, and eventually wouldn't fit back into the hole... so I had to rip them off. Made the phone look trashy after that. This phone's covers seem better.

Diff'rent strokes and all that, I guess.
 
agent0014 I'm an impatient person. So I went ahead and removed the cover. The way I removed the cover it should be pretty easy to put back.

What I did was remove the battery cover, battery, and SD Card.
Then removed the top three screws. (two on top and one near the cover)
Pry apart the case just a little with a plastic screwdriver and removed the cover.

The cover has the little thing sticking off of it with a ball head (I know it sounds dirty). There is a notch in the case that holds it in place. To put it back just do the same steps again, just inserting it this time. (that's what she said)
 
Awesome LincKraker... I was going to start messing with it tonight myself! I'm having thoughts of trying to get best buy to exchange mine for another in hopes of getting a better battery out of it... once I'm sure I've got the phone I'm planning to keep I'm going to go ahead and do this. Thanks for getting to the bottom of this (also something she said :) )!

I'm glad you will able to stick your ball back in the hole. :D Sorry couldn't resist! ;)

Personally I like the covers, gives the phone a clean look. :)

Bravo, sir, for post #69. I've been waiting for a thread like this. The port cover is a nightmare for someone like me who bites their fingernails. I literally have to carry something with me (usually a guitar pick or a paperclip) in order to open the door. Just last night, I had to use the flashlight app to find a pen in the dark that I could use to pry it open. The headphone cover is even worse.
However, I can share this with you:
I had a palm treo a couple years ago with an uncovered port at the bottom. It was right around halloween (or not) and I had some hershey kisses wrappers in my pocket. Somehow, the stars aligned and one of the tiny foil wrapper pieces made its way into the bottom of my phone, completely shorting it out. Wtf..
This is really a non-cautionary tale and a 1 in a million situation, but I remember it every time I wanna rip that cover off. :)
 
Personally, I like that Samsung included the covers. It's a just-in-case kinda thing, sure they are not needed, but then again you never know... And Samsung thinks of this, this is one of the reasons I like their phones.

I like to think there a two divisions of Samsung phone production: Device R&D then Programming.

Device R&D is where the guys who love us are, and they try their damndest to get us an awesome phone...

The best and the brightest go to Device R&D..you know what that leaves for Programming...and guess what. They hate us.

SO TRUE.

"Wow, this could be the best Android phone ever. I know! Let's install an obsolete firmware version on it, and use a proprietary file system so that even if they CAN hack it, they can't fully unlock the phone right away. It's brilliant! did what LK did. loosen the screws and popped it out. It's not fully enclosed. It's open at the one end so it lifts out undamaged. Popped it in my box in case I ever sell it. I did that within two days of owning. it. Have done that to all my phones with those wastes of rubber.

It came off intact. There is a small rubber ball at the end of the long piece that connects it to the phone. If that was lubricated I suspect you could push it back in with a toothpick or small paperclip. I kept mine in case the phone has to go back to Sprint for some reason.
 
Tons of devices don't have covers on their devices and they've worked fine for years. Look at ipods and treos with their proprietary connectors. No covers there and no big issues to report.

I understand ive owned devices without them and still do all im saying is it is extra safety to have them there thats why they are there on some devices.
 
After having the sprint store tell me that I had corosion issues in the usb port on my mogul I have decided to keep the cover, I still don't know how mositure ended up getting in the usb port but for me I'll keep the cover, plus it cleans up the look a bit
 
I just wish they had put external tabs on it so it could be docked for charging rather than plugged in all the time. :(
