Root Use Triumph to turn wired router into wireless

I'm going to be deactivating my triumph soon and I'm looking for something useful to do with it. I don't have wireless in my apartment, though I do have a nice wired router. I am hoping I can use a usb to ethernet adapter, plug the phone into the wired router, then use the phone as a hotspot for my new phone.

If that's not clear, I want to make a wireless network using my phone in order to share my wired internet to other phones. Is this possible with the triumph? Any tips?

(I would prefer the phone not be plugged into my computer, since the computer might not always be on)

None of our kernels even have USB OTA support (using the USB port for anything other than storage mounting/ADB/USB Tether), so the rest is really out of the question.

Yeah, you would have to do all of the work. I'm not saying it can't be done, it's just probably never been done.

I think that may be your only option... not that bad of one, really. Especially when you consider how fast the battery suck is when tethering/hot spot is in use.

No worries, thanks for the info! Now I know it hasn't been done and would be difficult, and implementing it myself from scratch would be quite beyond me.

I'll find something useful to do with my triumph. I was thinking about mounting it on the wall in my shower (waterproofed of course) and having it constantly stream news or weather. Or mounting it somewhere as a security camera triggered by motion. Maybe a tiny monitor for my computer that displays various notifications (temps, fan speeds, emails). I also might mount it above a workbench, a dedicated display just for displaying useful diagrams of whatever I'm working on.

Anyone have any clever or strange ideas for it? Most recommendations are 'use it as a media player' or 'use it for gps'. My new phone will do these things just fine. I need ideas where having a dedicated device for the function is superior to having a multi-device (new phone) that includes that function.

That's the reason why I got the MT in the first place. I did everything I need in a device. And more as time goes on, with more apps hitting the market.

I would say even it it could be done it wouldn't be worth the effort, when you can buy a wireless router for under 20$ which would have a faster conductivity than the triumph would have anyway

I think the speeds would be OK. My speeds got way better once I got a new router (Linksys N600). I was using a Linksys WRT54G and had terrible results. Could a person us the Triumph on an older PC without a WiFi card or with a bad card? I mean will it tether to your PC via USB and then use your WiFi?

Screenshot are of current speeds via WiFi with my Triumph.

I read something like that like two years ago. It could be done, but would require the know-how to make a bridge. That's what we are doing with USB teathering anyway. I know I'm not going to do it:)

I've been thinking about what to do with it when I upgrade as well, and was thinking that it could be cool to connect it to a TV to make it a smart TV. You can use the HDMI to connect to the TV, wifi for internet, and a BT keyboard/mouse. It might not be as good as some of the stick mini-computers, and you'd be limited to a froyo ROM, but it would be free.

I just started using mine as a remote for my MK808B Google TV/Mini PC android stick that outputs HDMI to my TV. Rockchip finally came out with an Android app for remote control from any android device on the same WIFI network, and with the latest custom ROM on the TV stick, and an app from Time Warner and HBO-Go, it puts out better 1080p than the cable box, without a coax connection. I also use a wireless keyboard/mouse on it, but the MT gives me another remote so I can be even lazier while watching TV. And I can still use the MT to make phone calls with a Magic jack app, video calls with skype, and texting with various apps, and TabletSMS/DeskSMS can send/receive texts from my active phone. It's still a 4" WiFi tablet, and can still run some games, and I put it in a waterproof phone holder to take pics while swimming with my daughter without risking my active phone. Yeah, I'm sure you will find something to use it for :-)

You can get a good android stick for less than $50, like MK808b for less than $50 now. My MT works great as it's remote .
