Help Using a launcher with the One

Wilkas

Android Enthusiast
Hey guys, any of you lot using a launcher with your One? What recommendations have you got? I'm looking at Nova launcher prime, would I still have blinkfeed?

Whenever you use an alternative launcher, you lose access to HTC widgets - Blinkfeed would be in that list, pretty sure.

I've tried a few, and for no reason that I can rationally explain I really, really like Nova better. Of course, I'm still not a One user, so take that as you may. :)

You'll find working with the dock and folders is _very_ nice in Nova.

Personally, I go with three very spartan screens, and then have my scrolling dock (scrolls independently of the screens) with folders for my various favorite groups of things I do. And you can add 1x1 widgets to the dock.

Try the free version to see if you like it, and then Nova Prime simply adds on more of a good thing.

I really like the look of the icons but love blinkfeed... Hard choice, think I'll give a few a try and see if anything sticks.

Remove NOVA & insert HOLO & that's pretty much my set-up,3 screens/scrolling dock w/folders.

You can go to town on icons if that's your pleasure, search the Store for Nova and you'll see all sorts.

Here are two at random to show the idea -

If you decide to go without Blink, we have a whole forum, Android Themes - Android Forums discussing those, various widgets and so forth.

Thats the whole idea behind Sense and I forgot what Samsung one is called.

For my N4, I dont have those, so I install Nova Launcher and I use TelsaUnread Plugin for my counts.

To install a launcher on top of Sense, etc? That doesnt make sense.

Maybe you can get a cook ROM of pure Android and hope someone make one soon.

Sense is far more than a launcher, it's an integration of people-centric apps + a launcher.

If you like those apps (I do) but prefer an alternative launcher (I do) then adding Nova makes perfects sense.

The I/R BLASTER-TV REMOTE/FAVORITE PROGRAMS-SENSE5/BLINKFEED integration is a perfect example of this. VERY NICE!

Has anyone used Nova Launcher on the HTC One? I am thinking of getting the One, but would like to get rid or not use Blink Feed. Any opinions or thoughts welcome.

while not a replacement aesthetically, flipboard offers the same type of functionality that blinkfeed has for those that are holding back on a launcher because they don't want to lose blinkfeed. The one advantage it does have is more news sources that you can pull from...

Most people miss the little gear icon at the bottom right of the screen that allows you to setup how the app updates, as well as the ability to read articles while offline.

Check it out on the app store...

Yes it's great... BUT when you use nova, you lose the transparency on the notification bar... If you're the picky type, like me.... Frustrating.

If you flash a custom ROM and use a different launcher then there's a mod to be able to still use Blinkfeed, puts an icon in the app draw.

Yes, you certainly can use Nova launcher, set it as the default and you no longer see blinkfeed. It is still there and accessible, but you do not see and/or have to use it when using Nova. I like to use blinkfeed occasionally, and have it set to launch with a swipe up gesture from the home screen.

All the other Sense apps work fine also (Zoe, IR Blaster, etc.).

I kinka like Blinkfeed. Is it possible to add this to a custom launcher such as Nova? I don't find in in apps or widgets. (HTC One Verizon user)

Yes, simply open Nova preferences, go to gestures and buttons.

Select any gesture or tap then set that to shortcuts > activities > HTC Sense

Now, when you perform that action it will take you to Blinkfeed.

Thanks, this forum is great. I am using Nova launcher exclusively on my HTC One. I like the look and functionality.

I am using nova launcher. Problem is I like blinkfeed and I saw earlier in this post someone says they have gesture set to swipe up on home screen to enable it. I don't see the availability for me to set any gesture for blink feed. Its not under app, shortcut, or widget? Any help? Thanks

I can't bring myself to use anything but Sense actually. I've tried using Nova Prime before but I always come back to Sense, I love the feel and look and I really like blink feed so its a keeper for me.

Different tastes. I just found the Sense launcher so limiting - grid sizes, dock doesn't scroll, homescreen scrolling doesn't loop, really slow way off adding widgets, can't overlap stuff, limited theming, etc.

It's better than previous Senses, but too inflexible for me.

I can't seem to link a gesture to sense with smart launcher. I really miss blink feed but love the clean simplicity of smart launcher.

I'm using Nova too. The first thing I did when I picked up my phone was look at Blinkfeed and ask my buddy "How do I get this *#@% off here?"

Apparently I'm a 70 year old trapped in the body of a 31 year old because I just spent 10 minutes searching this forum to also remove the facebook link in the photo gallery.

Anyway, I love Nova - haven't tried any others.
