Using nexus 4 without a case

I've never put a case or cover on a phone and never had any serious damage from falls.

I've dropped my N4 several times and it is scratch free and my glass is intact. If you treat with respect they're no more fragile than any other phone.

If it breaks...buy a new one, they're cheap. If you're accident prone buy a JCB phone...

Or put a case on it and dont worry about it breaking. They sell ballistic grade cases for it. For some people its cheap and others not. I buy almost every new phone that comes out to at least try them out so to me yea it would be no big deal to get a new one if i broke mine. Some people cant do that so they expect and want there device to last. They put a case on it and try to ask what cases work and what dont. A blanket statement such as "buy a new one" really isnt the answer or issue. Its not what was asked. Some can some cant.

FWIW, this goes for all devices, I've seen screens shatter for the oddest reasons, yet I've seen others take beatings like you wouldn't believe and keep ticking just fine.

In fact, my brothers inspire somehow shattered in his pocket, with an otter box on!

Sometimes I think it's best to remember bad things happen to good devices, and sometimes it's just beyond our control.

I remember a couple of "OH CRAP" moments of my own when my phone would drop on pavement and not get a so much of a scratch. Yet, other times it would drop about 1-2 feet and the whole screen went CRAAAACK!.

The moral to the story is no matter how many protective measures we take, and what device we choose, bad things happen. Personally, I wouldn't let it dictate my choices in device selection.

So I really love the look and feel of the nexus 4 and would love to not use a case, but I don't want to break it. Is there anything you can use that is minimal that could save it from a drop?
When I leave the house, I use a TPU case for my N4. When I'm lounging around my house I take it off. I honestly like the way the phone feels in my hand when it is naked, but, unlike my previous phone (Galaxy Nexus), this thing is covered in glass. I used a TPU case on my GNex for about a week and couldn't stand it. But with this phone I have learned to live with it since I don't want to shell out another 400 after taxes and shipping. I'm not a clumsy guy but I dropped my GNex and previous phones more than once. For me, no need to risk it.

I got my case at T-Mobile. Its plain and black and not too bulky. Like I said, I don't like it but I use it.

I see your point, I wasn't trying to be inflammatory either, just my feelings.

I've yet to find a case/cover that doesn't ruin the ergonomics for me, hence I go naked and run the risk. I appreciate that some people don't want to wing it like that. Maybe I've just been lucky!

I would never use my nexus with out a case again because I drop mine and broken it

I cracked the glass on my Lenovo phone by dropping it. About 4ft onto a hard ceramic floor. Landed front down...picked it up...oh dear! Fortunately it was only 200RMB(about $30) to get it mended. Still not bothered with a case, I'm just a bit more careful now. :)

Although the cheapo Galaxy Note knock-off I bought fairly recently, has flap in the phone's housing that folds over the glass front, rather like a wallet. It actually came with two back covers, one with the flap, and one without. As well as two batteries. :D

I have had my Nexus 4 since December and I have it naked.. plus I work outside on the tarmac at McCarren Airport here in Vegas and no issues..not a scratch on it :)

Thanks I am still trying to decide if I want the orb or not.

I love the orb. I haven't plugged a USB cable into my phone since I bought it, except for one time in the car. It slides off with the bare glass back, but any type of case or even a screen protector and it stays put. And it charges nicely with every case I have. It does slide off with the bumper, but I'm pretty sure it's just because my back glass is bare and its not the bumpers fault. That glass is slippery as hell.
