Help Using the optical trackpad button to wake the phone

I just want to press the trackpad button and wake the phone. I really would rather not have a screen lock replacement. Seems like I will have to wait for root for this.
I am in the same boat. I'm not really looking for any feature other than pressing the joystick button to wake the phone.

I think I'm a little unclear what is meant by "wake" in this case. Personally I would love to have it function as my iPhone did, where I press the track button and it behaves as if I had pushed the lock/unlock button at the top, prompting a lock screen. It's not that I don't want to have to slide to unlock, I just don't want to have to hit the button on the top of the phone because it feels awkward.

Will any of the mentioned apps do this? Or do they remove the swipe screen altogether?

lockbot worked a treat for me too.

Only flaw is it doesn't automatically restart after a task killer event. :)

^^What he said. I'd even pay for such a seemingly simple thing. If all the application did was control the optical button mapping it'd be golden. i.e. use it to wake the phone when sleeping, use it to return to home screen (ala iphone) or use it to open the menu while awake. Or any number of functions.

I'm no developer that's for sure. But I may take a look at the tutorials to see if I can make an app for this simple purpose.

If I come up with something I'll post, or if anyone finds an app specifically for this please post so I don't waste my time.

lockbot is what you are looking for....you can even choose you "old" iphone screen....it wakes the phone up by pressing the trackbutton. then it shows whichever screen you customized it to.....then slide on your "new screen" and voila! no more "sliding" on home screen after that....just on your "lockbot screen"...that's it!;)....you have to "unstar" all the other screens otherwise they rotate....

Ok let me make it clear. LockBot is not the solution i'm looking for. it is buggy and i have NO desire to replace the default locking screen with an uglier version.

Now what is different about root that gives us this feature? I've spent the last couple hours making some sample android apps and I am hoping I'll be able to make an app that serves this basic purpose.

Like rainierez I also don't want any additional "features" that these apps have.

I don't think there's a difference. Lockbot and myLock accomplishes the feature just fine but along with other crap that people don't want. I don't see a reason why any additional permissions would be required to do LESS.

That's exactly what I was counting on. I've posted a thread over on xda asking for help and advice as well. We'll see..

That definitely makes sense, and I'm on the same boat. I JUST want an app that will awake my phone from the optical trackpad, and thats it.

nolock does that just fine...also works if you touch the volume rocker..
installed it on 2 incredibles today, and works like a charm

No Lock - Android app on AppBrain
Almost there, I installed this and it's pretty minimal. It does enable wake up with the joystick button however only when you tell the app to disable the lock screen. We still don't have a solution that doesn't involve altering the lock screen.

I think I figured out what lockbot is doing that causes the perceived failure upon pressing the camera button. I don't think lockbot poles the camera button for a key press as frequently as the volume rocker. If I press and hold the camera button for a 3 count it unlocks every time. If I just press the button and release it tends to be hit or miss as I might hit a pole cycle and I may not. I'm curious to know if anyone else has experience this.

I am using Keyguard Disabler and it wakes the phone with trackpad. It is a very simple, free and good app IMHO. Sometimes you have to reset the disabler which is easy to do, but it doesn't happen enough to bother me.

Just another option for ya.

do other keys also wake the phone? like the volume rocker? and when it wakes it, does it go directly to the home screen or can i still have the swipe screen? in a perfect world i'd like to hit the trackpad to get to the swipe screen. is this possible with keyguard disabler?

its not free its $1.49

Downloaded LockBot. Have to hold trackball for two seconds but it does wake up the phone! Thanks for the advice!!!

Id be willing to pay for an app that ONLY lets me awake my phone with ONLY the power or trackpad (no volume button waking since those are too easy to press). Unfortunately the apps out right now have many superfluous extras that I do not want.

looking forward to this!
